The Service Technician - Food Services is responsible for specialized and skilled maintenance, installation, and repair of County facilities, equipment, and offices. Depending on area of certification and assignment, may be responsible for facility renovations, HVAC repair and maintenance, repair and maintenance of doors, gates, and fixtures, preparing and painting walls and ceilings, and the maintenance and replacement of various plumbing equipment and fixtures; maintenance of all commercial Food Services equipment, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic devices.

Position Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or GED

Experience

  • Three (3) years of journey level experience working on commercial food services equipment and/or refrigeration systems.

OR

  • Post-secondary education such as completion of an apprenticeship program or vocational education in HVAC or Hydraulics and Pneumatics may substitute for up to one (1) year of the experience requirement.

Other requirements

  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire.
  • Training that may be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS - IS100 and 700; Safety; Payroll; PREA.
  • Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass a background review.

Essential Job Tasks

(This is not an all-inclusive list of all job duties that may be required; employees will be required to perform other related duties as assigned.)

  • Maintains food service equipment that provides food to all jail facilities at peak mechanical performance.
  • Working knowledge of commercial food service equipment to include: machines that are used in the food preparation area and the holding area.
  • Adapts to changing situations; problem solves with limited supervision.
  • Performs preventative maintenance as well as heavy maintenance; daily safety checks on equipment, and daily visual inspections for loose hardware and/or belts.
  • Diagnoses mechanical problems at a component board level; troubleshoots three-phase control circuits; diagnoses program inverters; reads and understands schematics, digital and three-phase; and diagnose circuit boards.
  • Maintains an essential parts inventory; a systematic and secure tool inventory.
  • Logs and tracks repairs for Food Services.
  • Maintains a preventative maintenance schedule for all Food Services equipment.
  • Provides customer service as main contact for all outside contractors; contacts all vendors that supply the parts inventory for the Food Service machinery.
  • Maintains duct work for each applicable machine.
  • Participates in application of a comprehensive safety plan, including knowledge of OSHA safety regulations as they apply.
  • Assists with operation of equipment used in the Food Factory as needed.
  • Must be available all hours and shifts as deemed necessary by the Food Services Manager to ensure plant operation.
  • Must be able to drive a County Vehicle to pick up supplies to complete service on machinery.
  • Maintains awareness of the general care, custody, and control of inmates at all times to ensure the safety of both staff and other inmates.
  • Be present at work site to perform assigned tasks at the times and dates scheduled by the supervisor.

Work occurs primarily indoors working in MCSO jail facilities with various staff and all classifications of inmates.

Work occurs indoors and outdoors. Position requires the ability to be available all hours and shifts as deemed necessary by the Food Services Maintenance Supervisor, in order to maintain equipment to include holidays and weekends. May have contact with working inmates.
