Plant Operator

Position Overview

TMS International is seeking a dependable, safety-focused Slag Plant Operator for our dry slag processing operation in Axis, Alabama. This position operates and monitors plant equipment, handles material, and performs routine inspections and cleanup to support safe, efficient production.

Experience operating a front-end loader and skid steer is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor dry slag processing equipment, including conveyors, screens, and material separation systems.
• Operate front-end loaders and skid steers, as trained and authorized, to feed the plant, move material, manage stockpiles, and clean work areas.
• Maintain consistent material flow and monitor processed material quality.
• Watch for blockages, material buildup, abnormal noise, vibration, and other operating issues; promptly report concerns.
• Complete pre-shift inspections and accurately document equipment condition, production, and downtime.
• Keep conveyors, walkways, access points, and surrounding work areas clear of material buildup.
• Assist with routine equipment care and maintenance within the limits of training and authorization.
• Follow site safety procedures, required PPE, dust-control practices, and lockout/tagout requirements.
• Communicate with supervisors, maintenance personnel, and other operators to coordinate work and address delays.

Qualifications

• Experience in slag processing, aggregate processing, mining, recycling, or a similar industrial operation is preferred.
• Front-end loader and skid steer operating experience is preferred.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and the ability to recognize equipment problems.
• Ability to follow instructions, complete operating records, and communicate clearly.
• Dependable attendance and a strong commitment to safe work practices.
• Willingness to work assigned shifts, overtime, and weekends as required.

Working Conditions

Work takes place in an industrial dry processing environment with exposure to dust, noise, vibration, outdoor temperatures, and uneven surfaces. Duties include climbing equipment access points and stairs, walking, standing, bending, and performing physical cleanup.
