The
UNCW Department of Psychology supports undergraduate study in psychology, including an interdisciplinary minor in Applied Behavior Analysis and Developmental/Intellectual Disabilities, and graduate education at the master's and doctoral levels. The department emphasizes close faculty-student collaboration, supervised research, applied learning, and service learning.
The Applied Behavior Analysis concentrations in the master's and doctoral programs are accredited by the Association for Behavior Analysis International Accreditation Board. Graduate cohorts are intentionally small, and faculty typically mentor two to four graduate students at a time. The master's and doctoral programs require empirical thesis and dissertation research, allowing students to contribute directly to faculty research programs.
The Applied Behavior Analysis graduate program was recognized in 2017 by the Society for the Advancement of Behavior Analysis for its enduring contributions to the field, and its graduates routinely achieve a 100% first-time pass rate on the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst examination.
The department emphasizes applied learning experiences at the graduate and undergraduate levels and strongly values the contribution of basic and applied research to advance the field of psychology.
