HDR is seeking a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) to serve as a Team Lead within our Power Delivery practice. This role combines technical leadership, staff supervision, project oversight, and quality management. The successful candidate will lead a team of 3 to 5 engineers and designers while supporting the delivery of complex electric utility infrastructure projects and providing exceptional service to our clients.
In the role of Power Delivery Engineering Team Lead, we'll count on you to:
- Assist the Area Section Manager with operations and production of section including staff development, profitability, morale, quality, and marketing support.
- May function as a Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager, or technical lead and assist in responsibility for production on projects in addition to management responsibilities.
- Assist with administrative responsibility for team staff and technical service functions and lead and coordinate services with other sections.
- Be involved in marketing planning, proposals, and interviews.
- Be directly involved with Business Group clients in marketing, project production, and related issues.
- Assist in verifying that project work is planned, organized, controlled, and evaluated proactively through a project management system.
- Implement, monitor and support company policy
- Assist in the selection, training, development, and management of technical personnel.
- Perform other duties as needed
Key Responsibilities Team Leadership & Staff Development
- Directly supervise a team of approximately 3-5 engineering and design professionals.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, performance feedback, and career development guidance.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
- Assist with workload planning and resource allocation to support project and client needs.
Project Delivery & Technical Leadership
- Lead and oversee the execution of transmission, distribution, substation, and/or telecommunications engineering projects.
- Provide technical guidance and support to project teams throughout project lifecycles.
- Review engineering deliverables for technical accuracy, completeness, quality, and compliance with client standards and industry requirements.
- Support project managers with scope development, schedule management, risk identification, and budget performance.
- Serve as Engineer of Record when required.
Quality & Operational Excellence
- Establish and maintain high standards for engineering quality and consistency.
- Conduct quality control reviews of project deliverables.
- Identify opportunities to improve project execution processes, standards, and tools.
- Ensure compliance with company quality procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
Client & Business Support
- Build and maintain strong relationships with utility clients and project stakeholders.
- Participate in client meetings and support business development activities.
- Assist in identifying new opportunities with existing and prospective clients.
- Contribute to proposals, staffing plans, and strategic growth initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in electric utility infrastructure projects
- Working knowledge of utility design standards and construction practices
- Multi-discipline project leadership experience
- Strong background in one or more of the following: Transmission Line Engineering, Distribution Engineering, or Substation Engineering
- Experience leading project teams and coordinating technical work
- Experience managing or mentoring engineering staff
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Experience supporting proposal development and client relationship management
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- A minimum of 7 years experience
- Professional registration, license or certification may be required based on role
- Strong communication and listening skills
- Ability to handle multiple assignments
- Good leadership and organizational skills
