Position Overview

We are partnering with a large, established, multi-office law firm seeking an experienced Technology Trainer to join its Information Technology team in St. Louis. This individual will be responsible for developing, delivering, and maintaining technology training programs designed specifically for attorneys, legal assistants, paralegals, and administrative professionals.

The ideal candidate must have prior experience working directly within a law firm environment, with a strong understanding of legal technology, attorney workflows, document production, and the unique technology needs of legal professionals. This is not a general corporate training position. The firm is seeking someone who understands how technology supports the daily operations of a law firm and can effectively train legal professionals across multiple practice groups and experience levels.

This position combines hands-on technology training, instructional development, end-user support, and collaboration with IT leadership to improve technology adoption, productivity, and efficiency across the firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver comprehensive technology training programs tailored to attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, and law firm administrative personnel.

  • Conduct instructor-led, virtual, individual, and group training sessions covering firm applications, legal technology platforms, and Microsoft Office products.

  • Lead technology onboarding and orientation for newly hired attorneys and staff, ensuring proficiency with the firm's systems, applications, and technology resources.

  • Create and maintain training materials, user guides, instructional presentations, quick-reference documents, and other educational resources.

  • Provide advanced Microsoft Office training, particularly Microsoft Word, including complex legal document formatting, styles, templates, tables of contents, track changes, and document comparison.

  • Train employees on legal-specific software and applications, which may include document management systems, time and billing platforms, PDF editing tools, and other law firm technology solutions.

  • Evaluate the technology training needs of attorneys and administrative teams, adapting instruction to individual skill levels and practice-specific workflows.

  • Partner with IT leadership and other departments to support software implementations, system upgrades, technology rollouts, and change-management initiatives.

  • Provide hands-on technical support to attorneys and staff, troubleshooting application issues and collaborating with the help desk to resolve more complex concerns.

  • Communicate software enhancements, application updates, and technology best practices to improve adoption and overall efficiency.

  • Maintain knowledge of emerging legal technologies, Microsoft Office applications, mobile devices, wireless equipment, and instructional learning platforms.

  • Track training participation, evaluate program effectiveness, and recommend improvements to training resources and delivery methods.

  • Participate in a rotating on-call technical support schedule covering approximately three to four weekends and one holiday annually.

Required Qualifications

Law Firm Experience - Required

  • Previous professional experience working directly within an established law firm is required. Candidates must understand the technology demands, workflows, confidentiality expectations, and service standards of a legal practice.

  • 3-5+ years of experience in technology training, IT support, help desk operations, or a closely related technology-focused position, with direct experience supporting legal professionals.

  • Demonstrated experience providing technology training or hands-on technical instruction to attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, and other law firm personnel.

  • Expert-level proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Word functionality used in legal document preparation, formatting, revisions, and document management.

  • Experience troubleshooting software applications and providing high-quality end-user technical support.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, and instructional skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for users with varying skill levels.

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven legal environment.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys, administrative leadership, and IT team members.

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Education, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technology training experience within a mid-sized to large, multi-office law firm, particularly an Am Law 200 or comparable legal environment.

  • Experience with legal document management platforms such as iManage or NetDocuments.

  • Familiarity with legal timekeeping, billing, and practice management applications.

  • Experience training users on Adobe Acrobat, document comparison tools, legal templates, and other legal document production technologies.

  • Experience developing instructional materials, training presentations, e-learning modules, and technology reference guides.

  • Experience supporting technology implementations, firmwide software upgrades, and end-user adoption initiatives.

  • Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), virtual training platforms, and other instructional technologies.

What Makes Someone Successful in This Role?

The strongest candidates will bring a combination of law firm technology experience, advanced Microsoft Office knowledge, and the ability to teach technical concepts effectively to legal professionals. They should be comfortable working directly with attorneys, understand the urgency and precision required in a law firm environment, and have a service-oriented approach to technology education and support.

Success in this role requires more than technical proficiency. The firm needs someone who can build relationships, communicate patiently, anticipate training needs, and help attorneys and staff work more efficiently through effective use of technology.
