THE POSITION

Begin a journey that connects you with the outdoors in a meaningful way! The State Parks Intern position at the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources introduces you to the teamwork and care behind park operations. You will join experienced staff and take part in tasks that support both visitors and natural areas. It is a chance to grow while helping protect Pennsylvania's parks.




DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This internship gives you a big-picture understanding of how a state park operates and supports public enjoyment and resource protection. You will learn from experienced staff while exploring many tasks throughout the park. As a State Parks Intern, you will perform the following duties:

  • Program Support: Assist Environmental Education staff with recreational and educational programs
  • Resource Learning: Work with park and regional staff to learn how natural resources are managed
  • Plan Assistance: Help prepare and follow park resource management plans
  • Species Monitoring: Monitor for invasive species throughout the park
  • Event Support: Assist with special events and help coordinate volunteers

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • High school internship starting Fall of 2026 for the 2026-2027 School Year.
  • Work schedule will vary based on agreement between the Commonwealth supervisor and the school, at time of hire.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • You must be at least 16 years of age at time of hire.
  • You must be a junior or senior enrolled in high school during the 2026 - 2027 school year.

Additional Requirements:

  • Letter of Recommendation: You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar school professional indicating you meet your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.
  • Work Permit: Minors will be required to submit their Work Permit upon acceptance of this position.
  • By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth's Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the student upon acceptance of this position.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
