THE POSITION

The Special Investigator 1 position with the Department of Agriculture offers an exciting opportunity to support fair and responsible racing at Meadows Racetrack. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on enforcing racing regulations, conducting investigations, and supporting safe and fair operations at Meadows Racetrack. It involves gathering facts, completing reports, performing inspections, and interacting with individuals involved in racing activities. As a Special Investigator 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Investigation Tasks: Collect facts and information related to ongoing investigations at the racetrack
  • Rule Enforcement: Enforce rules and regulations established by the Harness Racing Commission
  • Report Writing: Prepare reports for supervisors that summarize investigative findings
  • Inspection Duties: Search barns, vehicles, and other areas as directed
  • Interview Activities: Interview applicants with arrest histories, convictions, or racing violations
  • Sample Collection: Collect human urine samples for required testing
  • Fingerprint Processing: Collect and process fingerprints and assist with license generation
  • Track Monitoring: Inspect key areas and patrol the barn area to ensure safety and compliance

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Special Investigator Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of professional experience in criminal, civil, or administrative investigation work, and a bachelor's degree; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a State Horse Racing Commission Employee License.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Willing and able to work in Washington County, Pennsylvania.
  • Able to perform duties in and around horses with exposure to dust, dirt, and hay.
  • Willingness to work a varied schedule which may include holidays and weekends.
  • Willingness to work outside in adverse weather conditions.
