THE POSITION

The Corrections Mail Inspector role with the Department of Corrections offers a chance to support safe and secure operations across the facility. This position plays an important part in protecting staff, inmates, and the integrity of institutional procedures. You will help keep prohibited items from entering the institution while keeping essential communication flowing. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the secure flow of mail and packages that enter the correctional facility. You will examine shipments, assist with distribution, and manage records that relate to inmate property and communication. As a Corrections Mail Inspector, you will perform the following duties:

  • Inspection Activities: Inspect items from postal and courier services to identify and stop contraband
  • Mail Retrieval: Retrieve and distribute admissible mail through coordination with facility departments
  • Record Management: Maintain logs and property records and respond to inmate requests
  • Policy Compliance: Apply postal and departmental rules to ensure safe and proper mail handling
  • Facility Support: Assist with related duties that promote secure and efficient operations

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment (37.5 hours per week)

  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of clerical experience, including one year in the field of corrections; or

  • Any combination of experience and/or training which provides the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.


Additional Requirements:
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
