Description

At Gensler, we design for people. We leverage our global perspective and local presence to innovate at every scale. We are not just designers. We are tinkerers, craftspeople, visionaries, innovators, and thought leaders. Fueled by passion and entrepreneurial spirit, our people bring new ideas to solve the world's most challenging problems, like designing a more resilient and equitable future for our cities and communities.

Gensler's Global Marketing & Brand Communications Studio is an award-winning, strategic marketing communications team that supports the firm's marketing and business development activities. We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated, team-first Senior Editor with content marketing experience and editorial background to create print and digital content from concept through to delivery. In representing the voice and visual presentation of Gensler, the Senior Editor will collaborate with designers, fellow editors, strategists, and media relations representatives across our organization. This is a senior individual contributor role for a seasoned communications professional who can operate independently, develop smart strategy, and execute compelling content that advances the firm's brand, deepens engagement with clients, prospective talent, media, and design advocates, and connects meaningfully with our global audience.

Your Role

You are a member of our Global Marketing & Brand Communications Studio, reporting to our Editorial Director and serving as a key deputy in shaping the firm's editorial strategy. You will take a central role in building and sustaining the content operation for Gensler's new website, including contributing to pre-launch content development and, once live, helping to establish the site as a flagship brand publishing destination.

The ideal candidate has deep writing and editing expertise, a proven track record of managing stakeholders, and the ability to translate complex subject matter into compelling narrative content across multiple channels and formats. You have a sharp editorial instinct, a collaborative mindset, and a reporter's curiosity with the ability to uncover and track down unique storylines. Having experience contributing to a strategic marketing team for professional services and B2B companies is a must.

What You Will Do

  • Ghostwrite for owned and third-party channels.
  • Assign and edit blog content.
    • This includes discussing ideas with the firm's thought leaders, writing outlines and assignment memos, providing notes and potentially difficult feedback, and revising content while managing stakeholders.
    • Write compelling headlines.
  • Research and write case studies/project stories.
  • Play a leading editorial role for Gensler's new website.
    • This includes contributing to pre-launch content planning, editing, and preparation, and helping to build and sustain a brand publishing operation once the site goes live.
  • Have a deep and day-to-day knowledge of the architecture, design, and building industry and be able to articulate how we should respond to relevant news.
  • Write and edit for the firm's major publications such as Design Forecast.
    • Use your deep knowledge of the industry to inform trends.
  • Contribute to lineup discussions for Dialogue Now, Gensler.com Homepage, Gensler.com Ideas Page, and the Firmwide Editorial Calendar.
  • Interview principals, designers, and senior leadership for on-camera Q&As.
  • Collaborate on video scripts as needed.
  • Collaborate on social media content as needed.

Your Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in editorial positions (writer, editor, copy editor) with experience in developing compelling thought leadership
  • Deeply passionate about content marketing and innovative storytelling of a brand in both digital and print forms-an ability to balance business needs with compelling creativity and brand integrity
  • Experience launching or growing at scale a digital editorial operation such as a brand publication, content hub, or content-forward website.
  • Editorial mindset that seeks to understand what's new and relevant, what content audiences consume, and how to create it
  • Great storytelling ability and an eye for detail with a keen ability to adjust your tone based on your audience
  • Self-management skills and an understanding for how to manage the priorities of multiple stakeholders
  • A team-first player with an outstanding ability to communicate with colleagues and internal stakeholders
  • Experience across a range of media (digital and print)-enjoys working on big ideas and small points of execution, and everything in between
  • Experience collaborating with senior executives (C-suite, Managing Directors, Subject Matter Experts, etc.)
  • Experience working with decentralized multi-location, global and multicultural communications teams
  • Minimum requirement of a Bachelor's degree in Creative Writing, English Literature, Journalism, or Communications
  • Experience in the design, architecture, real estate, or building industries is of interest
  • Experience for a professional services firm, in-house, or working for an agency is preferred
