The Division of Geriatrics is seeking a full-time Outreach Manager to support the UCSF Geriatric Care & Dementia Trainings and Warmline Consultations program funded by the California Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) Rural Health Care Training and Technical Assistance Program (RHTP). This role is essential in ensuring the program's success by driving engagement with rural healthcare providers and interdisciplinary care teams, increasing awareness and participation in the Dementia Care Aware (DCA) program. By creating targeted outreach campaigns, fostering connections with program participants, and representing the program at key events, the Outreach Manager plays a pivotal role in expanding access to evidence-based dementia and geriatric care, ultimately advancing the program's mission to improve healthcare outcomes in underserved communities.

The Outreach Manager will develop and execute targeted outreach strategies to engage rural healthcare providers, interdisciplinary care teams, and community stakeholders. Key responsibilities include creating audience-focused talking points and campaigns that align with broader communication strategies, drafting and distributing tailored messaging, and conducting follow-ups via email and phone as needed.

The manager will also represent the program at conferences and events, providing information about Dementia Care Aware (DCA) to potential participants and conducting needs assessments to connect them with appropriate interventions or resources. Additionally, they will track and analyze outreach efforts using DCA data systems and contribute to program analytics.

This position requires a dynamic communicator with strong organizational skills, a passion for healthcare equity, and the ability to build relationships that support the program's mission to improve dementia and geriatric care in rural and underserved communities across California.

Strategic Communications Planning

Works with management and clients to create, develop, and implement long and short term strategic communications plans and / or projects.

  • Collaborate with program leadership to design and execute an annual outreach plan targeting rural healthcare providers and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Develop a timeline and milestones for rolling out promotional campaigns for Dementia Care Aware (DCA) training opportunities.
  • Provide oversight and serve as main point of contact to move projects forward.

Communications Strategy and Consultation

Advises and consults with departmental / college administration regarding all aspects of communications including developing strong communications strategies that effectively deliver the desired message, policy interpretation, and problem resolution.

  • Provide recommendations to program leadership on communication strategies to enhance participation in training sessions and use of the warmline consultation service.
  • Work with program and/or administrative leadership to refine messaging that addresses common barriers faced by rural providers in accessing dementia care resources.
  • Ensure communications and marketing campaigns meet applicable compliance and standards.

Communications Production and Quality

Ensures production of high quality products that effectively deliver the desired message within budget and time constraints.

  • Coordinate with graphic designers and content creators to ensure all communication materials meet program branding guidelines and deadlines.
  • Conduct a final quality review of all email campaigns, ensuring accurate information and adherence to UCSF's communications standards.
  • Troubleshoot and take corrective actions to ensure integrity of program messaging, budgets, and other regulatory needs.

Communications Needs and Organizational Improvement

Identifies specific communications needs and develops the content and process for organizational improvements.

  • Analyze feedback from participants and stakeholders to identify gaps in outreach and communication efforts, recommending improvements to the strategy.
  • Research and document relevant policy and programmatic landscape updates that impact or influence messaging for the target audience.

Program Participant Support and Coordination

Serves as primary point of contact for new program participants.

  • Conduct needs assessments to ensure DCA meets their needs.
  • Triage new program participants to correct DCA point of contact for enrollment into services like ECHO, Trainings, Implementation support, etc.
  • Coordinates alongside the comms and training manger, inperson events and training sessions to ensure needs are met.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications.
  • Knowledge and understanding of technical applications to effectively direct technical staff, or personally perform technical work, including design concepts, various media, and applications.
  • Knowledge of the organization, its achievements, mission, vision, goals, policies, practices, infrastructure, and a strong knowledge of current affairs, and issues in higher education and / or health sciences.
  • Solid skills to create, develop, and implement comprehensive long and short term strategic communications plans.
  • Knowledge and skills to advise and consult with management to ensure delivery of the desired message to the target and / or broad general audiences.
  • Solid written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills.
  • Knowledge of location protocols and channels for communication internally and externally.
  • Ability to travel for work (locally and nationally).
  • Previous experience leading marketing campaigns, including knowledge of budget management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in an academic/healthcare institution and/or working with rural health populations.
  • Knowledge of federal and state healthcare policy, including relevant statutes, regulations, and program requirements; ability to interpret policy changes and assess their operational and programmatic impact.
