The ideal candidate has proven diesel repair experience and a strong background in diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance of commercial trucks, vocational equipment, and diesel-powered machinery. Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose and Repair: Troubleshoot complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems on heavy-duty trucks, vocational vehicles, and off-highway equipment using advanced diagnostic software, schematics, and technical resources.
• Preventive Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, filter replacements, brake inspections, fluid services, chassis lubrication, and equipment inspections to maximize uptime and reliability.
• Component Repairs: Repair or replace major components including diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, aftertreatment systems, hydraulic components, steering systems, and braking systems.
• Electrical Diagnostics: Diagnose and repair electrical systems, engine controls, sensors, wiring harnesses, and electronic control modules (ECMs).
• Welding and Fabrication: Perform minor welding, cutting, and fabrication work necessary to complete equipment repairs and modifications.
• Documentation: Complete accurate repair orders, maintenance records, warranty documentation, and parts usage reports.
• Customer Interaction: Communicate repair findings, maintenance recommendations, and equipment status updates with customers and service personnel.
• Safety Compliance: Follow OSHA, manufacturer, and company safety standards while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
• Tool & Equipment Management: Maintain tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop resources to ensure operational readiness and efficiency.

Qualifications

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Technical degree or certification in diesel technology, heavy equipment repair, or related field preferred

Experience

• 2-5+ years of hands-on diesel technician experience required
• Experience diagnosing and repairing heavy-duty trucks, vocational trucks, construction equipment, mining equipment, agricultural equipment, or industrial diesel-powered equipment
• Experience with Detroit Diesel, Cummins, CAT, Allison Transmission, Volvo Penta, MTU, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Freightliner, Western Star, Mack, Volvo, or comparable products preferred

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, drivetrain systems, hydraulic systems, air brake systems, electrical systems, and electronic controls
• Experience using OEM diagnostic software and computerized diagnostic tools
• Ability to diagnose and repair engine, transmission, fuel, cooling, emissions, electrical, and hydraulic systems
• Ability to read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation
• Proficiency with hand tools, specialty tools, and shop equipment

Soft Skills

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

Certifications (Preferred)

• ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Certifications (T2-T8)
• OEM training from Detroit Diesel, Allison, Cummins, CAT, MTU, Volvo Penta, or equivalent manufacturers
• CDL endorsement or related vocational certifications

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift 50-75 lbs.
• Ability to work in various shop environments and weather conditions
• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work around heavy equipment and commercial vehicles

License

• Valid driver's license required
• CDL strongly preferred
