Job Description:

The Sr. eDiscovery Specialist (Sr. eDS) is responsible for taking a lead role in the business development, consultation, training and delivering of eDiscovery and legal technology services to firm attorneys, paralegals and clients. The Sr. eDS is responsible for making legal technology/eDiscovery decisions to determine the best course of action necessary in electronic discovery matters. The Sr. eDS provides assistance to and serves as a local "team leader" to junior members of the eDS team and functions as a senior level eDiscovery consultant and project manager. A hybrid work schedule is available for this position.

Location: Los Angeles, CA

  • Project Management
    • Develop recommendations, cost estimates, procedures, vendor recommendations and specifications for eDiscovery from pre-discovery through trial.
    • Prepare project documentation including database design specifications, vendor processing and delivery specifications and reporting.
    • Oversee/coordinate resources and track project progress and workflow.
    • Evaluate specifications and determine appropriate resources to use (internal and external) to deliver eDiscovery projects.
    • Proactively apply quality management techniques to ensure client satisfaction.
    • Maintain project files and documentation.
    • Review data from vendors for accuracy and quality.
    • Prepare document productions and perform production quality checks.
    • Oversee junior team members.
  • Consulting/Strategy
    • Design and maintain eDiscovery databases.
    • Subject matter expert for all technology aspects of litigation, eDiscovery, vendor management, pre-trial and trial technology support.
    • Work with case teams to advise, develop, and implement eDiscovery collection, review, and production protocols.
    • Advise attorneys and clients on Generative AI review strategy and procedures.
    • Responsible for identifying, testing, and assisting in the implementation of technologies that improve eDiscovery workflow efficiency for firm/practice groups.
    • Serve as a focal/escalation point for partners, associates, paralegals, and eDS consultants within the region.
    • Assists with troubleshooting application and system-related issues.
  • Business Development
    • Participate in appropriate seminars and training to keep abreast of current litigation tech trends.
    • Champion the need to engage eDS in the early stages of cases.
    • Conduct local, regional, and/or national training/orientation to attorneys and paralegals related to the latest in litigation support and eDiscovery.
    • Ensure time is entered into firm billing system according to firm policy and provide clear, concise narratives.
    • Adhere to firm and eDS policies and procedures
    • Maintain confidentiality and security of data
    • Participate in Litigation Group and Office Administrator meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
  • 7+ years law firm experience primarily focused on litigation/investigation process required.
  • 7+ years of experience with the Model of Electronic Discovery (EDRM) required.
  • Experience with Microsoft and Citrix technology required.
  • College Degree or equivalent work experience for a law firm or service provider required.
  • ACEDS or corollary eDiscovery Certifications preferred.
  • Relativity familiarity preferred.
  • Broad range of computing knowledge.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with ability to communicate complex technical details to unfamiliar audiences.
  • Strong familiarity and practical experience with the Model of Electronic Discovery (EDRM).
  • Must be self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. Flexibility in work schedule (after hours support) required.
  • Strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate on all levels.
  • Wide-ranging proficiency in Relativity features and functionality.
  • Knowledge of Transcript/Chronology/Trial presentation databases and workflows
  • Ability to deal with a multitude of projects and/or problems, including complex issues that require collaborative efforts between users, NP IT support, and vendors to ensure a timely response or resolution.
  • Solid understanding of Firm practices and business direction.

In accordance with applicable Federal and State laws, the anticipated annual salary range for this position, depending on location, is as follows:

  • Los Angeles, CA: $118,000 to $174,900

In addition to a standard benefits package, this role may be eligible for additional contingent compensation based on an array of factors, including but not limited to: work performance, geographic location, work experience, education, and qualifications. Because such contingent compensation is not yet calculable or may be zero ($0) in some circumstances, the above-listed salary range(s) are Nixon Peabody's good faith estimate of the annual salary(ies) it reasonably expects to pay for the position at the time of this posting.
