Description

The Town of Needham Building Department is seeking a Temporary Part-Time Scanner to support a large document-digitization project within the department. Stored plan sets must be scanned and cataloged to ensure proper inventory and digital preservation. The Temporary Scanner will assist with digitizing these plans, organizing electronic files, and supporting staff in estimating the remaining workload associated with the project.

The assignment is anticipated to be completed within a four-month timeframe. Approximately 12 hours per week.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Scan physical plan sets using department scanning equipment during scheduled hours.

  • Organize, catalog, and inventory scanned documents to create accurate digital records.

  • Maintain consistent file-naming conventions and electronic storage procedures.

  • Handle and prepare fragile or aging documents for scanning.

  • Work with Building Department staff to prioritize plan sets and track progress.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the scanning project.


Requirements

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • High School Diploma required.

  • Ability to perform repetitive scanning tasks efficiently.

  • Basic computer skills and ability to use digital file organization systems.

  • Ability to lift and move plan sets up to 20 lbs. or similar materials as needed.

  • Reliability and ability to follow established procedures.

  • Prior experience with scanning or clerical document management is helpful but not required.
