Job Summary The Institute for Behavioral Genetics (IBG), University of Colorado Boulder, invites applications for up to three tenure-track Assistant Professor positions. Successful candidates will hold academic appointments in affiliated departments or another appropriate academic unit aligned with research expertise and interests. Appointments are anticipated to begin in August 2027. The Institute seeks to build on its historic strength in behavioral genetics. We are particularly interested in individuals using statistical genetics and/or twin and family approaches to address scientific questions aligned with current Institute strengths. Substantive research areas include but are not limited to lifespan development and aging, neurodegeneration, cognition, mental health, psychiatric disorders, substance use, learning disabilities, sleep and circadian processes, and related areas of behavioral and health research. Competitive candidates may conduct cutting-edge human and/or computational research using whole-genome analysis and methods development, statistical and quantitative genetics, genetic epidemiology, population genetics, computational biology, bioinformatics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, genomic structural equation modeling, Mendelian randomization, and related methodologies. This search prioritizes computational, quantitative, theoretical, and data-driven research programs, or otherwise not dependent on dedicated wet-laboratory or animal research facilities. Who We Are Founded in 1967, the Institute for Behavioral Genetics (IBG) is one of the world's leading research institutes for genetic research on behavior. Its mission is to conduct and facilitate research which examines the genetic bases of individual differences in behavior and to conduct research training in this interdisciplinary area. There are currently 9 tenured or tenure-track faculty rostered in the Institute and based at IBG. In total there are 28 faculty fellows, most of whom hold joint appointments in academic units on the Boulder and Denver campuses. In addition to our research mission, faculty on the Boulder campus teach both undergraduate and graduate students. IBG administers about 45-50 grants (including Center components and subcontracts), with external support of ~$10 million per fiscal year currently and expenditures ranging from $6-14 million annually over the past decade. We direct a NIMH pre- and postdoctoral training grants supporting 4 graduate students and 1 postdoctoral fellow, and we provide NIMH-supported methodology workshops for about 110 scientists annually. Appointees will have the opportunity to recruit postdoctoral fellows and graduate students using funds from these training grants. More detailed information can be found at: https://www.colorado.edu/ibg/ What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be Appointees will participate in the research and teaching missions of both IBG and their home department and contribute service to IBG, the Department, and profession. Classroom teaching assignments will be in accordance with Department policy. They will typically include two courses per academic year, one undergraduate and one graduate course each year as long as the appointees remain research active. The courses and course load will be determined in consultation with the Department Chair and Institute Director. To earn tenure, the appointed individuals are expected to establish an independent, externally funded research program and contribute to departmental teaching and mentoring of the next generation of scientists. What We Can Offer This position offers a 9-month salary range of $95,000-$110,000. Candidates may expect starting salaries within the posted range depending upon accomplishments-including publication record and external funding, years of experience in comparable faculty positions, and discipline. What We Require Applicants must hold a doctoral degree (PhD, MD/PhD, or DPhil) in a life science discipline that includes, but is not limited to, neuroscience, biology, genetics, psychology, or physiology. Completion of a postdoctoral training program or equivalent is expected. What We Would Like You to Have Accomplishments during graduate and postgraduate training should have stamped the candidate as a creative and promising investigator. If the individual does not have formal teaching experience, they should have demonstrated a commitment to develop the skills for high-quality collegiate teaching.
