Assistant Professor in Asian Art History (tenure-track)

The Department of the History of Art and Architecture at Tufts University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Asian Art History at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an expected start date of September 1, 2027. The position is open to any region of East, South, and Southeast Asia and period of specialization in the field; however, preference will be given to candidates with a focus on the 19^th-21^st centuries. The candidate must be able to teach survey and thematic courses in Asian Art and Architecture, as well as thematic graduate seminars. The successful candidate should demonstrate scholarly promise and excellence in teaching.

We are particularly interested in scholars with research and teaching interests that complement the department's broad thematic strengths: social and cultural networks, mobility, exchange and appropriation; museums, architecture, and heritage; power, difference, and gender; materiality, aesthetics, and media; interdisciplinarity and critical historiography.

Applicants should demonstrate their readiness to contribute to our undergraduate majors in Art History and Architectural Studies, as well as to our M.A. programs in Art History and Art History & Museum Studies through classroom teaching, research supervision, and student mentorship.

The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Art History or related field by the time of the appointment (September 1, 2027), demonstrate outstanding scholarly accomplishments and promise of research, and exhibit a record of excellence in teaching and mentorship at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
