TheSenior Human Resources Generalist partners closely with the Senior Manager, HR Business Partner to deliver strategic and operational Human Resources support to assigned business units. This role serves as a trusted advisor to leaders and employees, providing guidance on employee relations, talent management, workforce planning, organizational effectiveness, performance management, and change initiatives.



The Senior HR Generalist is responsible for executing Human Resources programs, initiatives, and processes that support business objectives while independently managing complex HR matters within assigned client groups. Drawing upon established HR expertise and prior experience, the role identifies solutions to workforce challenges, facilitates organizational initiatives, and supports leaders in creating effective, engaged, and high-performing teams.



Operating with a high degree of independence, the Senior HR Generalist manages daily deliverables, outputs, and reporting, while leading projects or project workstreams as needed. The role collaborates with Centers of Excellence and HR partners, and contributes to continuous improvement efforts that enhance Human Resources service delivery and organizational effectiveness.



Location: Pittsburgh, PA - NOVA Place, Hybrid



Responsibilities:

Strategic HR Partnership



  • Partner with the Senior Manager, HRBP and business leaders to support workforce, talent, and organizational strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Build relationships with leaders to understand business priorities, workforce challenges, and organizational needs.
  • Support workforce planning, succession planning, organizational effectiveness, and talent management activities within assigned business units.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations regarding organizational structure, role alignment, workforce capacity, and change readiness.



Talent & Organizational Effectiveness



  • Support talent management, succession planning, leadership development, and employee development processes.
  • Support organizational design, restructuring, and workforce transition activities.
  • Partner with leaders to execute change management initiatives and drive adoption of organizational changes.
  • Promote employee engagement, accountability, performance excellence, and continuous development across assigned client groups.



Employee & Labor Relations



  • Provide consultation and support on employee relations matters, investigations, conflict resolution, and workplace concerns.
  • Partner with Employee & Labor Relations and business leaders to identify risks and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Support labor relations activities, contract administration, and collective bargaining preparation, where applicable.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, labor agreements, and applicable employment laws and regulations.



Operational HR Support



  • Execute Human Resources programs, policies, processes, and initiatives that support business and organizational objectives.
  • Manage day-to-day HR activities, deliverables, reporting, and business partner support responsibilities for assigned client groups.
  • Analyze workforce metrics and trends to identify risks, opportunities, and recommendations for business leaders and HR leadership.
  • Lead or participate in Human Resources projects and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational effectiveness and employee experience.
  • Partner with Centers of Excellence to implement enterprise Human Resources programs and initiatives.
  • Support workforce planning, talent review, budgeting, and annual Human Resources planning activities.



Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • 5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience with demonstrated business partner and employee relations experience.
  • Strong knowledge talent management, performance management, workforce planning, and employment policies/practices.
  • Experience supporting organizational change, talent initiatives, and Human Resources program implementation.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and effectively navigate complex employee and organizational issues.
  • Experience leading projects and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR) preferred.
  • Experience in a union environment preferred.



Scope:

Accountable for managing individual workload, priorities, and workflow, and may lead projects or project workstreams. Applies established Human Resources knowledge and prior experience to resolve complex issues, recommend solutions, and support business objectives. Operates independently in most situations while consulting with leadership and subject matter experts on highly complex or sensitive matters. Serves as a resource to HRBP team and contributes to process improvements and operational excellence initiatives.



Decision Impact:

This role resolves complex Human Resources issues by applying HR expertise, sound judgment, and prior experience to identify and implement effective solutions with HRBP leader support. Exercises independent decision-making within established policies, procedures, and practices while balancing business objectives, employee considerations, and organizational risk.

Evaluates workforce and employee matters, develops recommendations, and supports execution of Human Resources initiatives, organizational changes, and process improvements. Escalates highly sensitive, high-risk, or precedent-setting matters as appropriate while maintaining accountability for day-to-day problem resolution and business partner support.



Hybrid Work:

Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.



Storm Roles:

All Non-Union Employees will serve in storm roles as appropriate to their role and skillset. Please be sure to discuss storm roles with the hiring manager for this position, as duties can vary across the Company.Examples of storm roles could include but aren't limited to duties such as: working with operations for service center support or with the communications, customer service, or government affairs teams to respond to public and customer requests for information, etc.



Data Governance:

Utilize data to make business decisions as appropriate for the position, support data stewardship activities and partner with IT on underlying data needs.
