The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Urology is seeking a Clinical Trial and Data Management Research Assistant to support, conduct and manage clinical trials to deliver and evaluate research protocols.

Key areas of responsibility:

* Chart review, data extraction, and creation of workable databases from electronic medical records and case report forms per IRB-approved protocols. Will include analysis of such data in conjunction with our biostatistician Sarah (Bell) Mott and other research team members.

* Assist in the development of Case Report Forms for UIHC approved clinical trials in uro-oncology.

* Perform semi-independent Pubmed searches for information relevant to clinical and laboratory research.

* Write up "Standard Operating Protocols = SOPs" for clinical trials operations and laboratory research protocols that he will be working with.

* Create abstracts and manuscripts for publication and presentation at approved regional, national and international meetings.

* Perform benchtop laboratory experiments and procedures under the supervision of Dr. Yi Luo and with the occasional assistance of senior research associate Xiaohong Chen. Keep laboratory notebook of progress.

* Assist in the IRB-approved acquisition of clinical specimens (blood, tumors, and urine washes obtained primarily from MFL/RR cases but also from in house office cysto cases and IRL Intravesical Therapy Clinic). In some cases this would include transporting that material to the Urology Research Lab for further studies or export to commissioned or collaborating laboratories.

* Identify and work with pathology team in preparing cut paraffin sections for export to outside or inside facilities that are equipped to perform DNA and RNA "genomic" analysis. This may include other outsourcing of clinical samples approved by IRB and creation of de-identified clinical synopsis of materials to accompany these specimens. Will assist in the preliminary analysis of resultant data.

* Serve as a liason and coordinator with outside collaborating institutions as part of clinical and research studies involving PI's and other member of their research team.

* Assist Clinical/Health Care Research Specialist in preparing IRB draft clinical studies for eventual submission.

* Assist Clinical/Health Care Research Specialist to provide essential on-site data for Contract Research Organizations (CROs) involved in UIHC Uro-Oncology clinical trials.

* Participate in (at least weekly) clinic research team meeting. Participation will include preparing periodic progress reports.

Required Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

* Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel and database management.

Desirable:

* 0-6 months protocol/clinical trials research management experience

* Experience in research directly related to urology, cancer and/or lower urinary track dysfunction.

* Knowledge of regulatory guidelines and procedures

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. No weekends, no holidays.

$20.79/hr
