Assistant Professor of Dental Hygiene

All faculty at Georgia State are, as part of their essential job duties, expected to: (1) be physically present on-campus as needed to contribute to Georgia State's in-person educational experience, and (2) be able to teach in each of the following instructional modalities - in-person, online, or blended/hybrid - as determined by their Department Chair or Dean.

The Kinesiology and Health Professions Department at Perimeter College, Georgia State University, serves a diverse student body through academic pathways in Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Kinesiology and Health, Sport Management, Health Science, Respiratory Therapy, Health Informatics, and Public Health. The department is staffed by 27 full-time and 20 part-time faculty, who create engaging and challenging academic environments that provide students with hands-on, real-world experience.

The department's associate degree Nursing and Dental Hygiene programs are among its most established, known for strong licensure pass rates and employment outcomes that reflect the caliber of faculty and the rigor of clinical training. Graduates leave not only credentialed but prepared for careers that are both in demand and well compensated.

The Health Science pathway provides foundational coursework and prerequisites for competitive programs such as Dental Hygiene, Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Health Information Administration, and Medical Technology, preparing students for a range of careers in the rapidly expanding field of allied health medicine.

Within Kinesiology and Health, students may specialize in Exercise Science, Health Coaching, Personal Training, or Sport Management, the latter of which incorporates the study of business principles and sociology as they pertain to the sport industry. The department also offers a Personal Training and Entrepreneurship Certificate, combining practical fitness training with foundational business skills for students entering the wellness industry or building a practice of their own.

Many students arrive at Perimeter intending to continue toward a bachelor's degree, and the department's pathways are designed with that goal in mind, aligning directly with related degree programs at Georgia State University.

Perimeter College invites applications for an assistant professor position in dental hygiene. This is a teaching-focused position: 80% of the workload is instruction, with 10% in service to the department, college, and university, and 10% in scholarly and creative activities. Perimeter faculty are responsible for providing 27-32 credit hours of instruction per academic year and engaging in service to the department, college, and university as well as scholarly and creative activities.. Teaching responsibilities include didactic courses and clinical instruction, and may include clinic management or coordination. Perimeter College faculty maintain a campus presence, and the successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to early undergraduate teaching and learning, and the ability to thrive in an academic setting with an access mission. Perimeter College is a multi-campus institution, and the teaching assignment may be on any of the college's campuses. The dental hygiene program is located on our Dunwoody campus.

2+ years of full-time clinical practice or equivalent as a licensed dental hygienist.

A minimum of a Master's degree is required in the teaching discipline or a closely related field completed by the appointment date. Additionally, an associate or bachelor's degree in dental hygiene from a dental hygiene program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation is required by the anticipated date of employment. Salary range: $53,350-$65,000

must hold a current state of Georgia license in dental hygiene OR be eligible to apply for and successfully obtain a Georgia license in dental hygiene within 2 months of the appointment date.
