Diabetes Educator - Open Rank: Instructor - Senior Instructor

Job Summary:

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine, at the University of Colorado has an opening for a full-time Diabetes Educator at the rank of Instructor 1.0 FTE. This position will provide support to the freestanding Maternal Fetal Medicine clinic, located in Downtown Denver, Littleton, Parker, and Fort Collins as well as the Children's Hospital Colorado - North Campus location.

Key Responsibilities:

* Provide diabetes education and follow up to pregnant adults who have gestational diabetes and Type 2 diabetes.

* Educate patients and families on:

o Diabetes types and disease progression

o Implications of diabetes in pregnancy

o Blood glucose monitoring techniques

o Insulin and non-insulin medications

o Carbohydrate counting and meal planning

o Exercise and lifestyle modifications

o Management of hypo- and hyperglycemia

o Use of diabetes technologies such as continuous glucose monitors (CGMs)

* Propose insulin initiation and titration regimens, with authorization by MFM physician

* Perform CGM placement and education

* Interpret glycemic patterns from CGM or glucometer logs, and collaborate with MFM care team on therapeutic adjustments

* Participate in diabetes program planning, delivery, and evaluation

* Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical notes in accordance with Maternal Fetal Medicine guidelines

* Participate in team and staff meetings to support both service delivery and division goals

* Work individually and collaboratively in the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives and activities

* Work in a manner that provides privacy and confidentiality

* Practice independently

* Demonstrate continuing education in diabetes management

* Provide services via telehealth and in person

* Bill for services accurately

* Back up on communicating with pharmacies on supply and insulin orders as well as completing prior authorizations

Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 1-2 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Clinical Instructor or Senior Clinical Instructor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Instructor:

* Master's degree in nursing or related field

* Registered Nurse or Registered Dietitian

A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the master's degree on a year for year basis.

Sr. Instructor:

* Master's degree in nursing or related field

* Registered Nurse or Registered Dietitian

* Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES)

* 5+ years of experience working in diabetes care

A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the master's degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Registered Nurse licensed to practice in the state of Colorado or Registered Dietitian

* Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES)

* Experience working with the psychological and social aspects of living with diabetes.

* Previous clinical and research experience

* Knowledge of and experience working with Type 1 Diabetes

* Phlebotomy and IV skills

* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

* Demonstrated ability to work under pressure

* Ability to multitask

* Willingness to learn and comply with relevant laws, rules, regulations, and policies

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Instructor: $79,000 - $87,000

Sr. Instructor: $87,000 - $95,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
