Help bring the next generation of Keysight's high-frequency measurement technology to life. As an R&D Microcircuit Test Electrical Staff Engineer, you'll shape how advanced RF, microwave, and millimeter-wave microcircuits are tested and brought into production. These modules power some of Keysight's most advanced measurement instruments. Working closely with design engineers, you'll influence designs, develop test methods, and guide products from early prototypes to reliable, repeatable manufacturing.

This is a hands-on opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving difficult hardware problems and taking technical ownership. You'll apply your circuit knowledge and lab expertise to uncover root causes, improve measurement accuracy, and make production testing more efficient. As a technical resource for the team, you'll collaborate with electrical, mechanical, software, and manufacturing engineers to solve complex challenges with a direct impact on product performance and quality. The role is based fully onsite in Santa Rosa, California.

Responsibilities

  • Lead microcircuit test development throughout new product introduction, from early R&D prototypes through pilot builds and production.
  • Partner with design engineers to influence RF, microwave, and millimeter-wave (mmWave) microcircuit designs, ensuring manufacturability, alignment with global supply chain requirements, and high production yields.
  • Support prototype development and evaluate microcircuit performance, reliability, and conformance to required specifications.
  • Design, develop, implement, and transfer mmWave products and manufacturing test processes into production.
  • Troubleshoot complex analog and RF circuit issues using schematics, hands-on measurements, and lab instruments. Work with design and software engineers to determine whether failures originate in the product design, hardware, test setup, or test software and drive resolution.
  • Develop and refine test methods to reduce measurement uncertainty, improve repeatability, and increase production test throughput.
  • Collaborate with R&D throughout all project phases to incorporate design-for-excellence (DFx) principles, including design for manufacturability and testability.
  • Define test requirements and measurement approaches, and collaborate with software engineers to automate and validate the tests.
  • Create and maintain test system block diagrams, test system documentation, and electronic tools (ETs) used in mmWave production.
  • Use statistical data analysis to establish and evaluate production test specifications and limits. Correlate measurement results and align testing requirements with test and measurement (T&M) partners.
  • Develop and maintain Test Support Documents (TSDs) for all microcircuit tests.
  • Support transfers to other manufacturing sites by documenting test processes, training receiving engineers, and helping resolve implementation issues.
  • Serve as a technical resource for complex microcircuit testing and troubleshooting, collaborating across electrical, mechanical, software, design, and manufacturing teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with a strong foundation in RF, microwave, and analog circuit theory and applications.
  • Typically, 8 or more years of relevant engineering experience. Candidates with seven or more years and demonstrated depth in microcircuit testing and troubleshooting may also be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of analog, RF, and microwave circuits, including hands-on experience testing and troubleshooting complex hardware.
  • Ability to interpret circuit schematics and block diagrams, investigate failures, and identify root causes.
  • Hands-on experience using oscilloscopes, network analyzers, and spectrum analyzers, with an understanding of measurement methods and interpretation of results.
  • Ability to work independently on complex technical problems and collaborate effectively with design, software, and manufacturing engineers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document test methods and communicate technical findings.
  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills, persistence, and follow-through.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in RF, microwave, or analog theory and applications.
  • Experience testing and troubleshooting high-frequency or millimeter-wave (mmWave) microcircuits or modules.
  • Experience supporting new product introduction, developing manufacturing test processes, or transferring products from R&D into production.
  • Experience using statistical analysis to establish test limits, improve production yields, or evaluate measurement accuracy and repeatability.
  • Experience collaborating with software engineers to automate hardware tests.
  • Experience building or testing transceiver modules for space applications.
