Bioinformatics Programmer I

Department Overview

The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry is dedicated to advancing the understanding of fundamental biochemical mechanisms that underlie health and disease, with the goal of enabling the development of more effective diagnostics and therapeutics.

The selected candidate will be appointed within the Irwin Research Group, which specializes in computational chemistry approaches to identify and design novel small molecules. This work supports the study and modulation of complex biological processes and contributes to innovative research at the intersection of chemistry and biology.

Biological and Research Data Analysis

Under direct supervision, utilizes basic software tools to analyze or interpret biological or research data of limited scope and complexity.

• Assist with the use of chemical databases and their graphical user.
• Assist with molecular docking methods and workflows.
• Assist with training AI models and applying established methods to ultra-large chemical spaces.

Operational Systems and Database Documentation

Assists with documentation for implementation of changes to operational systems and databases.

• Support documentation and troubleshooting efforts relarted to current computational issues in the lab.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biological science, computational / programming, or related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
• Basic knowledge of bioinformatics methods and data structures.
• Basic knowledge of applications programming and web development.
• Basic knowledge of databases.
• Basic project management skills.
• Basic knowledge of modern biology and applicable field of research.
• Interpersonal skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
• Ability to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner.
• Self motivated, able to learn quickly, meet deadlines and demonstrate problem solving skills.
• Basic knowledge of application and data security concepts.
