Summary of Job Duties:This position is at the UAMS Health Benton/Bryant location.

The Sous Chef is responsible for the production of food, participating in food service activities, adhering to security and safety practices, coordinating the production and serving of food. The Sous Chef helps prepare and cook foods of all types and collaborates with other personnel in the serving and safety of food items. This position is responsible for time management, multitasking and maintaining a clean and safe work area. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with a business/food service-related field plus 4 years of experience in hospital food service, catering, or hospitality industry is required

OR

  • HS plus 8 years ofexperience in hospital food service, catering, or hospitality industry is required.

  • Culinary arts management experience is desirable.

  • Culinary/Dietary/Nutrition Knowledge

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in culinary science from accredited university.

  • Certified Dietary Manager preferred

  • SERV Safe preferred

Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Produce quality food and ensure that customer service standards are met. Uses food production techniques that conserve nutrients and preserve flavor. staff completes in-services/annual requirements, and all employees are following the Joint Commission and Health department rules/regulations*

  • Meets weekly with department managers in fulfilling menus for special events for cafeteria and in all retail outlets and patient food services

  • Collaborating and communication with fellow supervisors on needs for the job.

  • Train on customer service and customer satisfaction through production and quality of food prepared; health department rules/regulations; The Joint Commission and Health Department standards; batch cooking and recipes; food safety; and sanitation.Regularly inspects facility for cleanliness, safety and maintenance needs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Medium Work | Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • The employee is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, general laborer, lab personnel, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., security guard).

  • The employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).

  • Constant physical activities: Balancing; Repetitive Motion; Standing; Talking; Walking

  • Frequent physical activities: Crawling; Crouching; Stooping

  • Occasional physical activities: Stooping
