Senior Business Communications Consultant

IDEXX Laboratories, Inc

United States, Maine, Westbrook

As a Senior Business Communications Consultant, you will serve as the senior embedded communications partner for one of IDEXX's most complex, high-visibility portfolios, partnering directly with senior leaders on everything from major organizational change and long-term communications strategy to leadership town halls, executive podcasts, sensitive messaging, and time-sensitive communications that need to go out today.

The work rarely arrives neatly packaged. Sometimes you'll be involved while an initiative is still taking shape; other times you'll step into something already moving. You will quickly identify what employees need, bring a point of view, and help shape the path forward, making the decisions that keep your portfolio's communications coherent instead of reactive, and owning the work end to end with minimal oversight.

Why this role matters:

Major projects at IDEXX only work if the employees living through them understand what's changing, why it matters, and what it means for them. This role exists so that when leaders are navigating something complex, sensitive, or high-stakes, they have a communications partner who can bring clarity to ambiguity and help employees move through change with confidence.

In this role:

  • You will own the communications strategy across a significant business portfolio, serving as the embedded communications partner for the largest business area at IDEXX, flexing between priorities as they shift and translating each strategy into a communications approach senior stakeholders trust.

  • You will lead initiatives that can't afford to go wrong, including complex, ambiguous, large-scale change and organizational change run in close partnership with HR Partners, planning, sequencing, and seeing it through with minimal oversight.

  • You will manage a range of senior stakeholder relationships, handling sensitive, high-stakes, and occasionally difficult conversations with the judgment and discretion senior leaders expect.

  • You will apply a structured change management approach, using frameworks like ADKAR and Prosci fundamentals as a working tool in real communications plans to make change more successful across the organization.

  • You will build a strong consulting practice, sharing what you've learned, mentoring junior teammates, and proactively helping the team improve how it approaches, plans, and delivers work.

  • You will connect the dots across your portfolio and the enterprise, spotting where communications can solve a problem, strengthen an initiative, or help leaders get ahead of what employees will need.

What you need to succeed:

  • 7+ years of communications experience, including a track record of running complex, high-visibility assignments independently, start to finish

  • Demonstrated partnership across multiple business areas that showcases your ability to build trust in more than one room

  • Sharp stakeholder instincts, with the ability to navigate ambiguity, competing priorities, and senior-leader dynamics without losing the thread

  • Working knowledge of change management frameworks (ADKAR/Prosci); formal certification is a plus, not a requirement

  • The confidence to offer a point of view, ask the hard questions, and recommend a different path when the communications approach isn't quite right

  • Strong judgment about when to lead independently, when to pull others in, and when something needs to be elevated

What you can expect from us:

  • Salary targeting $120,000 USD annually, with some flexibility depending on years and depth of experience.

  • Opportunity for annual cash bonus and performance-based annual merit increase

  • Health / Dental / Vision Benefits Day-One

  • 5% matching 401k

  • Generous PTO benefits

  • Additional benefits include, but are not limited to, financial support, mental health resources, paid days off, and much more!

  • This is a hybrid role based out of our Westbrook, ME headquarters, with a minimum expectation of 8 days a month onsite.
