Job Summary

The Data Center Technician II supports the installation, configuration, testing, and maintenance of low-voltage fiber optic and cabling infrastructure in commercial data center construction environments. Responsibilities include fiber termination, Fluke and OTDR testing, cable management, equipment rack and stack, infrastructure installation, and interpreting construction blueprints. This position requires at least 2 years of data center technician experience and 2 years of fiber experience, along with the ability to safely perform physically demanding technical work. The technician is expected to follow established safety procedures and maintain professional communication with colleagues and management.

Job Responsibilities




  • Perform cable infrastructure and fiber rough-in installations.



  • Dress, route, organize, and label cabling according to project requirements.



  • Perform cable and fiber termination.



  • Install and configure single-mode and multimode fiber and various fiber connectors, including ST, LC, SC, and SC-APC.



  • Perform Fluke and OTDR testing of installed cabling and fiber infrastructure.



  • Troubleshoot fiber optic connectivity and installation issues.



  • Rack and stack customer equipment.



  • Build out server racks and complete rack elevations according to project specifications.



  • Install fiber trays, ladder racks, equipment, cabinets, cable management systems, and power trays.



  • Receive materials and perform required hardware assembly.



  • Perform Outside Plant (OSP) installations, including routing fiber into data center facilities.



  • Read, interpret, and follow construction blueprints and installation plans.



  • Follow written and verbal instructions while maintaining professional communication with colleagues and management.



  • Follow applicable safety procedures, including proper PPE use, jobsite housekeeping, and OSHA requirements.




Job Requirements




  • Minimum of 2 years of Data Center Technician experience.



  • Minimum of 2 years of fiber optic installation and related experience.



  • Commercial construction and low-voltage infrastructure experience.



  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.



  • Active OSHA 10 certification preferred.



  • Knowledge of single-mode and multimode fiber installations, terminations, and connectors.



  • Experience with Fluke and OTDR testing and fiber troubleshooting.



  • Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and installation plans.



  • Ability to work safely on ladders and scissor lifts and in confined spaces.



  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move materials or equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.



  • Ability to stand and work on your feet for the duration of the shift.



  • Ability to use basic hand tools, including a multi-bit screwdriver, tape measure, snips, needle-nose pliers, channel-lock pliers, punch-down tool, and flashlight.



  • Ability to provide or use required jobsite equipment, including steel-toe or composite-toe work boots, gloves, and a tool pouch.
