Description

The Extension Department is currently accepting applications for a Temporary 4-H Program Assistant. The 4-H Temporary Program Assistant will provide support to the WVU Extension Putnam County 4-H and Youth Development Program. This position will assist with the implementation of 4-H programs, activities, events, and administrative responsibilities while working under the direction of the Putnam County Extension Office Administrator.

The position is designed to provide additional support to the county 4-H program during periods of increased program activity and will involve working with youth, volunteers, families, community partners, and Extension staff.

What You'll Do

  • 4-H Program Support
    • Assist the 4-H Extension Agent with the planning, preparation, and implementation of 4-H programs, activities, workshops, camps, and special events.
    • Assist with preparing program materials, supplies, educational resources, and activity spaces.
    • Support 4-H clubs and special interest groups as directed by the 4-H Extension Agent.
    • Assist with youth activities and educational programming for a variety of ages and audiences.
    • Assist with recruitment and engagement activities for 4-H youth and volunteers.
    • Provide general support during county 4-H events.
  • Youth and Volunteer Support
    • Support 4-H volunteers by helping prepare materials and supplies for meetings and activities.
    • Assist with communication and follow-up with 4-H members and volunteers as directed.
    • Promote a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all 4-H participants.
  • Administrative Support
    • Assist with general office duties related to the 4-H program.
    • Prepare, organize, copy, scan, file, and distribute program materials and documents.
    • Assist with maintaining program records, attendance information, registrations, and other documentation.
    • Help organize and maintain 4-H supplies, equipment, educational materials, and program resources.
    • Assist with data entry and other routine computer-based tasks.
    • Maintain confidentiality of participant and organizational information
  • Special Events and Seasonal Programming
    • Work flexible hours when necessary to support scheduled 4-H events and activities.
    • Perform other duties related to 4-H programming as assigned by the Extension Office.

Length of Assignment: 3 Months

Work Hours: 12 Hours per week

Qualifications
  • Associates degree or equivalent.
  • A minimum of six (6) months experience involving:
    • Experience working with children, youth, families, volunteers, or community organizations preferred.
    • Experience with 4-H, youth development, education, recreation, agriculture, STEM, or other youth-serving programs.
    • Experience planning or assisting with youth activities or community events.
    • Knowledge of the 4-H Youth Development Program and WVU Extension programming.
    • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

  • Ability to work effectively with youth of varying ages and backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Dependability, flexibility, and a willingness to assist where needed.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional conduct and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to follow established WVU, Extension, and 4-H policies and procedures.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, move, and organize program materials and supplies as required by specific activities and events.
Requirements
  • Must be able to successfully complete any required WVU Extension volunteer/employee screening and training requirements.
