| Position Summary |
UNC School of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry is seeking a board-certified/board-eligible open-rank, fixed term Psychiatrist to provide clinical care to adults with serious mental illness. This position will work in a dynamic and multidisciplinary academic medical center environment, where the successful candidate will have opportunities to provide patient care, teach, and engage in research.
The primary practice location for this position is the
UNC
STEP Clinic in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The psychiatrist will provide both in-person and virtual care to adults with serious mental illness as part of UNC's Center for Excellence in Community Mental Health (
CECMH).
CECMH is dedicated to promoting recovery and improving quality of life for individuals with mental illness through innovative clinical services, education, community partnerships, and research. We are seeking a clinician who values collaborative, team-based care and is committed to helping individuals build on their strengths, achieve their goals, and lead meaningful lives.
Responsibilities include providing high-quality, evidence-based psychiatric care for adults with serious mental illness, including diagnostic evaluations, treatment planning, psychopharmacologic management, and ongoing clinical care. The psychiatrist will work closely with an interdisciplinary team of nurses, therapists, social workers, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals to support comprehensive, person-centered treatment. Additional responsibilities include addressing the physical health needs of individuals with serious mental illness through coordination with primary care and specialty providers, providing psychiatric consultation to healthcare teams across the medical center, and contributing to the academic mission of the department through teaching, supervision, mentorship, and scholarly activities. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
- Applicants for general psychiatry positions must have an MD or equivalent degree and be board certified or board eligible.
- Applicants must be eligible for North Carolina licensure.

| Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
- A high interest and history of working with patients with serious mental illness is preferred.
- Strong clinical and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment is preferred.
- Preferred applicants will have interest in the department's missions of clinical care, teaching, research, and advocacy.
