Your Job Georgia-Pacific is seeking two interns to join our Safety Team at our integrated pulp and paper mill in Brewton, AL in the Summer of 2027. One intern will focus on Industrial Hygiene and one intern will focus on Emergency Management Engineering. We are looking for an engaged and detail-oriented engineering student who is interested in learning about manufacturing, Emergency Management, and Industrial Hygiene. This role will provide support to the mill by advancing and promoting safe operations, emergency preparedness, exposure assessment, and occupational health initiatives in alignment with applicable industry standards and best practices. This role will serve as part of the safety department and work alongside disciplines across the site, including but not limited to operations, maintenance, environmental, and other key functions. Our Team The Brewton mill is located in south central Alabama about an hour from Mobile, AL, Pensacola, FL, and the beautiful beaches of the Gulf Coast. The team is made up of 450 employees who produce white top linerboard and solid bleached sulfate (SBS) paperboard. The SBS material is used to make GP's Dixie plates. White top linerboard is used in production of corrugated containers and displays. This position is an opportunity to be part of a rapidly expanding organization with tremendous growth potential. The most recent $160M capital investment is expected to be completed in late 2024. Brewton was also the first fully integrated pulp and paper mill in the US to receive an Energy Star designation from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. We are Brewton. What You Will Do As an industrial hygiene intern in a pulp and paper mill, you'll support exposure assessments, collect air and noise samples, assist in chemical safety and PPE evaluations, conduct hygiene surveys, analyze data, help implement controls, document findings, and collaborate with operations to improve worker health, regulatory compliance, process efficiency goals. The Emergency Response Intern supports mill safety and security operations by assisting the Emergency Response team with inspection, maintenance, training, and incident response activities. This internship is designed to provide handson experience in industrial emergency response (fire, HAZMAT, and medical care), security procedures, and safety systems maintenance while working under the direct supervision of experienced Emergency Response Technicians and the Safety team.
