Office of Registrar

The Military Student Advocate works directly under the supervision of the Director of Military Outreach (MOC). The Advocate assists in the transition process of veterans, military and family members to an academic setting while connecting students with appropriate departments and resources. The Advocate will assist in the overall development and enhancement of college military/veteran-friendly policies and procedures for veterans, service members, dependents, and survivors. The Military Student Advocate will assist prospective and current students in the application, registration and enrollment processes for retention and progression toward degree.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

The scope of responsibility will include these specific duties but is not limited to:

  • Provide comprehensive advising and assistance to military students/veterans and military family members to identify appropriate academic and co-curricular needs to assist with their transition from military to an academic setting.

  • Provide detailed, step-by-step guidance for applying for admittance, and for registering and enrolling in specific programs of study and appropriate courses.

  • Ensure MOC Resource Booth and Centers are maintained with appropriate materials and remain neat and professional providing military assistance and referral as needed.

  • Work on implementation of initiatives with the Director and other campus offices.

  • Coordinate and participate in "special projects" college-wide on various campuses to support recruitment and retention toward degree completion for military learners.

  • Other duties as assigned. The individual(s) in this role may be required to provide assistance in the admission and registration processes and other related support services for military learners.

Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience. Candidate must be military vet.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

Preference will be given to military veteran candidates with experience in a higher education setting.

  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Must have a working knowledge of the educational, social, and physical challenges facing active military learners.
  • Must have a collaborative, energetic and resourceful work style.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task; pay attention to detail; and exhibit excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficient understanding of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
