8:00 am - 5:00 pm; Monday - Friday. Some work on nights and weekends around special events and outreach efforts will be needed. Events are heaviest during the academic semesters. |
| Primary Purpose of Position |
The position of Library Communication Specialist is responsible for assisting in communication and marketing efforts for the J. Murrey Atkins Library. The position reports to the Director of Library Communications. |
| Minimum Education/Experience |
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

| Essential Job Duties |
The Library Communications Specialist will be responsible for a variety of tasks that contribute to engagement, effective communications, marketing, and outreach activities for the library. The position will work with the director to create, maintain, and analyze content for the library's digital media, website, and printed materials. The position will support and, in some cases, lead the execution of library events. The incumbent also supports programs, special projects, and the logistics of marketing efforts. The Library Communications Specialist:
- Serves on the Student Engagement Committee
- Works closely with Administration on logistics of events and purchasing.
- Manages the promotion of the library's student outreach efforts, including De-Stress for Success, NSO, and Gold Rush.
- Assists the Director of Library Communications with the creation, proofreading, and editing of clear marketing messages that are appropriate for the intended audiences.
- Assists with website content production and management.
- Responsible for digital signage content management.
- Under the supervision of the director, creates and maintains social media platforms and efforts; composes, develops, and schedules posts for the Library's social media channels; monitors outreach and activity generated by social media posts.
- Works with vendors to order printing and promotional items. Maintains collateral materials, promotional items and supplies, and fulfills requests.
- Assists with interdepartmental projects.
- Takes photos at events and in the building as needed.
- Works closely with the graphic designer to produce a variety of promotional materials.

| Other Work Responsibilities |
Communicates via email, phone, web-conferencing, and in person with students and staff across all levels of the library and across the university. Attends and performs key roles in events/meetings as needed. Provides some graphic design and photo editing support. Supports, as needed, administrative and development communications. Other duties as assigned. |
| Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education |
- Demonstrated experience in marketing/communications.
- Expertise with the Google Suite of apps.
- Familiarity with Adobe CC: Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct basic internet research.
- Website content management and editing experience is a plus. Drupal experience preferred.
- The successful candidate will have strong organization skills, strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent attention to detail, accuracy, follow-through; ability to work independently; will be proactive, confident, personable, and exhibit the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism.
