The University of Virginia School of Medicine is home to 1.5 million square feet of research, education, and administrative facilities. The Assistant Manager plays a key role in this portfolio, ensuring facilities meet quality standards and operate efficiently. This is an active, mobile role overseeing renovation projects and daily facility operations across 30+ buildings, requiring frequent on-site engagement with research faculty, lab staff, and administrative teams. The role calls for strong customer service skills, given frequent, direct interaction with faculty, students, and staff, and serves as a liaison between School of Medicine departments, Facilities Management, project teams, vendors, and other University partners. Experience coordinating multiple concurrent space and renovation projects, facilities and operational requests, departmental moves, and space transitions, along with basic technical proficiency in digital tracking systems, mobile devices, and standard office software are required for the position. The Assistant Manager will also oversee School of Medicine storerooms and manage a team of up to five Store and Warehouse Specialists, with responsibility for manpower planning, time utilization, and safety program management. This includes supervisory duties such as developing work standards, implementing policies and procedures, providing feedback to staff, and participating in interviewing, hiring, and training. Prior leadership experience directing the work of others is preferred. Key Responsibilities

This role combines sedentary and mobile work, requiring regular on-site coordination and some travel between School of Medicine buildings, project sites, laboratories, loading docks, offices, and other University facilities Position requires the ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
