Law School Admissions Assistant Director

This position is an integral part of the Admissions Office team. Reporting to the Director of Admissions, the Assistant Director of Admissions is instrumental in the implementation of programs, counseling and communication for the Admissions Office. This position counsels prospective students, participates in the application review process, and is responsible for the coordination and oversight of the special programs coordinated by the Admissions Office. Working closely with the Communications Office, the Assistant Director will collaborate and maintain the marketing materials created for the Admissions Office, with the goal of increasing interest in the Law School.

Appointment
This is a full-time, 40 hours/week, exempt, P&A position. The salary range is $60,000-$75,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.

The position is mainly on-site, with some flexibility.

Responsibilities
Prospective Student Counseling (30%)

• Counsel prospective students through intimate familiarity with the admissions and financial aid process both in person (on and off campus) and virtually.
• Understand the strengths of the Law School and have an ability to use these strengths to showcase the Law School to prospective students.
• Provide timely responses to questions from prospective students.
• Display a consistent level of high energy and enthusiasm for the Law School and the admissions process.
• Regularly communicate with other members of the Admissions Team and other Law School offices to ensure consistent response to prospective students.

Application Review (30%)

• Evaluate at least 750 applications per year and make admission recommendations, in partnership with the Admissions team, to determine eligibility for admission.

Special Programs (20%)

• Oversee the organization and coordination of the Pre-Law mentor program, which includes collaboration with the UMN Pre-Law Advising Services Office and training current student ambassadors as mentors.
• Manage the Minnesota Pre-Law Scholars LSAT preparation program for approximately 30 students each year.
• Engage with and counsel UMN undergraduate students in the Law minor.
• Coordinate outreach to Pre-Law advisors to raise awareness of the Law School and meet Pre-Law groups in person and virtually.
• Conduct research and analysis of topics related to the admissions process and applicants as directed.

Prospective and Admitted Student Engagement (20%)

• Connect and foster relationships with admitted applicants to faculty, staff, alumni and students currently at the Law School as needed.
• Edit and provide content for multimedia recruiting tools, including the admitted student website and social media sites.
• Develop tools to increase the social media presence of the Admissions Office.
• Collaborate with Law Communications to maintain and update print, digital, and web content created for the Admissions Office, with the goal of increasing interest in the Law School.
• Generate and execute ideas on how to attract and recruit prospective applicants.
• Utilize admissions technology fluently to ensure accurate data entry and communication.

Required:

• BA/BS degree plus at least four years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree plus two years of relevant experience.
• Experience working in higher education admissions or student services, preferably with graduate or professional students.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google applications; ability to quickly learn new technology and systems.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
• Proven ability to take initiative to solve problems independently and proactively.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
• Ability to travel in and out of state is required (typically in the fall).
• Valid driver's license.

Preferred:

• J.D. degree or a minimum of two years' relevant experience, preferably in higher education administration, admissions or marketing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of student recruitment, education advocacy, or college counseling.
• Knowledge of Unite database.
• Knowledge of survey instruments, such as Qualtrics.
• Knowledge of and/or experience with graphic design software such as Adobe, InDesign, Photoshop.
