Departmental Overview

The Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley (GGSC) studies the psychology, sociology, and neuroscience of well-being and teaches skills that foster a thriving, resilient, and compassionate society. Over more than two decades, the GGSC has provided a bridge between scientists and the public, turning research findings into practical resources that support well-being for all. Since its founding, the GGSC has highlighted the importance of building social connections not only within communities but across groups, offering practical strategies for overcoming bias and prejudice, expanding one's circle of care, and promoting diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Position Summary

The Associate Director of Partnerships plays a vital role in developing and managing strategic collaborations that expand the GGSC's reach, deepen its impact, and support sustainable revenue growth.

Responsibilities

Content & Distribution Partnerships

  • Secure syndication, licensing, or distribution opportunities with media organizations and digital platforms to advance public understanding of well-being and expand the reach of GGSC content;
  • Establish and maintain relationships with professional associations and other networks that reach relevant practitioners - including health care, education, and business professionals - to share GGSC content aligned with their members' needs.
  • Coordinate with GGSC colleagues to ensure alignment between editorial goals and media partnerships.
  • Ensure partnerships reflect GGSC's values, including scientific integrity, equity, accessibility, and a commitment to the public good.

Program & Event Partnerships

  • Identify and cultivate partnerships with organizations that could benefit from the GGSC's services in speaking, training, or consulting, particularly in the fields of health care, education, or business.
  • Collaborate with the Greater Good Workplaces program director to develop resources, presentations, and proposals to engage potential corporate partners, particularly for workshops, consulting, or other services.
  • Identify and engage partners to sponsor, promote, and/or co-produce GGSC events and collaborate on co-branded events and content initiatives.
  • Identify partners who may be interested in placing ads in GGSC channels or on GGSC websites, or in sponsoring events, and monitor the performance of placements, working with the Director of Marketing and Partnerships to ensure advertising partnerships align with the GGSC's brand values and audience interests.

Partnership Research & Maintenance

  • Conduct ongoing research to identify potential partners across media, health care, education, and corporate sectors, assessing alignment with GGSC's mission, vision, and strategic priorities.
  • Maintain and improve comprehensive partnership tracking in a CRM system, ensuring data is accurate and up to date, with support from a student assistant.
  • Establish metrics to evaluate partnerships and track audience reach, revenue impact, and engagement.
  • Coordinate partnership-related communications and documentation, including contracts, advertising asset approval and agreements, proposals, and reports.
  • Contribute to strategic planning discussions and collaborate cross-functionally to support organizational goals.
  • Identify opportunities to package the GGSC's existing articles, practices, and other resources into digital or print products co-branded with other organizations, including health care and mental health professionals, and assess opportunities to monetize GGSC content and materials through licensing and sales.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in content partnerships or business development, or comparable skills/experience.
  • Experience with content licensing, syndication, and/or corporate sponsorships.
  • Understanding of the contemporary media landscape, especially digital media.
  • Understanding of how health care and other organizations use well-being resources to support employee well-being, patient care, or community health initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with external partners and stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Experience using CRM systems to track and manage partnerships.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, Google Workspace, and virtual presentation platforms (e.g., Zoom).
  • Demonstrated alignment with the Greater Good Science Center's mission.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the health care field, particularly around professional development and the continuing education market.
  • Familiarity with workplace well-being, leadership development, and continuing education partnerships.
  • Experience developing event partnerships or sponsorships.
  • Understanding of market research techniques to identify new partnership opportunities.
  • Past experience creating, implementing, and analyzing marketing campaigns.
  • Demonstrated skill/knowledge in well-being, psychology, and social impact.

Salary & Benefits

This is a part-time (20 hours/week) career position, eligible for full UC benefits.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

  • This is a remote-eligible position (within the United States). Exact arrangements are determined in partnership with your supervisor to meet role responsibilities and department needs and are subject to change.
  • This is not a visa opportunity. This position does not include sponsorship of a new consular H-1B visa petition that would require payment of the $100,000 supplemental fee.
  • This position will be governed by the terms and conditions in the agreement for the Communications, Marketing, and Sales Professionals, represented by the UAW.
