HAVENWYCK HOSPITAL (a UHS facility)

Havenwyck Hospital is a Joint Commission-accredited and licensed psychiatric hospital, overlooking Lake Galloway in Auburn Hills, Michigan. We specialize in providing comprehensive, compassionate behavioral health services to children, adolescents and adults. It is the ultimate goal of our dedicated staff to build strength, confidence and knowledge within each patient, in hopes that they may continue learning and understanding their needs and practicing self-care for the rest of their lives.

The position will support our specialized Residential Treatment Center serving adolescent males.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Residential Services, the Program Manager assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the job performance of the RCS-S staff in relation to maintaining the therapeutic program. The Program Manager will work in conjunction with the scheduler to maintain appropriate staffing levels, participates in hiring and training of RCS staff and serves as representative on designated hospital-wide committees. Under the supervision of the Director of Residential Services, the Program Manager oversees the daily operation of assigned residential units and provides direct supervision to residential staff. Thisroleensures consistent implementation of treatment programming, behavioral interventions, safety procedures, and therapeutic milieu practices while supporting youth in achieving individualized treatment goals.

Duties and responsibilities, to include; but are not limited to:

  • Satisfactorily completes all duties/responsibilities of the Residential Care Specialist Supervisor job description as needed.
  • Daily Operations: Manage the daily operations of assigned residential units. Ensure staffing coverage and compliance with required staff-to-youth ratios. Coordinate shift operations, schedules, and unit programming. Conduct daily staff briefings and operational huddles.
  • Staff Leadership: Supervise Residential Supervisors and Direct Care Specialists. Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluations. Ensure staff adhere to policies, treatment protocols, and documentation standards. Promote teamwork, accountability, and professional development.
  • Youth Treatment Support: Ensure implementation of individualized treatment plans and behavioral interventions. Reinforce evidence-based therapeutic approaches during daily programming. Coordinate youth activities, education, recreation, and life-skills programming. Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.
  • Incident Management: Respond to behavioral crises and emergencies. Review incident documentation for completeness and accuracy. Conduct post-incident debriefings with staff and youth. Monitor restraint reduction efforts and behavioral trends.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct unit audits and environmental safety rounds. Monitor documentation and policy compliance. Identify operational concerns and implement corrective actions. Report performance metrics and operational trends to the Director.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with Clinical Services, Nursing, Education, Recreation, Dietary, and Case Management to ensure integrated treatment delivery. Maintain communication with families and external stakeholders as assigned. Assist with admissions, transitions, and discharge planning.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • High School Graduate/GED is required; Bachelor's degree is preferred.
    • If High School Graduate/GED: Must have 4 + years of work experience in child caring institution required.
    • If some college: Must have 3+ years work experience in child caring institution required.
    • If Bachelors degree: Must have 2+ years work experience in child caring institution required.

Additional Requirements:

  • Effective problem-solving and organizational abilities.
  • Evidence of having established and maintained high level of professional and ethical standards.
  • Provision of satisfactory motor vehicle operation report.
  • Able to articulate goals and objectives of the department. Ability to effectively present information to committees, staff, physicians, families, community agencies and resources.
  • Written communications skills sufficient to document effectively in patient records and on reports applying to job title.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team, monitor compliance and hold staff accountable.
  • Experience working in residential or inpatient setting with children/adolescents involved in foster care, child welfare or juvenile justice programs.
