Senior Software Development Engineer in Test
Remote | 4-month contract
Vervint is looking for an exceptional Senior Software Development Engineer in Test with a focus on mobile test automation. The Quality Assurance practice is growing at Vervint, and we are looking for someone to help drive the Automation specialization within the QA team. This position is responsible for writing and maintaining automated end-to-end tests for React Native mobile applications in a positive, challenging environment. You'll be authoring tests against connected consumer products, working closely with cross-functional team members in a collaborative Agile environment, and testing cutting-edge technologies.
What You'll Accomplish:
- Author and maintain end-to-end automated tests for React Native mobile applications using Detox and Jest
- Read and navigate application source code (TypeScript/React) to understand feature behavior and build reliable, well-targeted tests
- Develop maintainable, scalable, and readable test suites organized by feature and screen
- Build and maintain visual/snapshot regression coverage across platforms (iOS/Android) and themes (light/dark)
- Validate app behavior against mocked service and device-simulation layers, including connected-product flows (Bluetooth/BLE, device registration, WebSocket)
- Identify and document clear and concise software defects, and link automated tests to test-case management (Jira/Xray)
- Develop and maintain test plans based on documented requirements and designs
- Keep automated tests running reliably in CI (Bitrise/Bitbucket pipelines), diagnosing and reducing flakiness
- Develop best practices and approaches for mobile test automation, and help mentor other QA members on the automated skillset
- Generate meaningful estimates for automated and manual test work
- Prepare and present findings, reports, and metrics
- Stay up to date with new testing tools and strategies
- Collaborate with Business Analysts, Software Developers, Project Managers, and User Experience Designers to ensure consistent project execution
What You'll Bring:
- 5 years of experience in test automation design, development, and implementation for web and/or mobile applications
- Strong programming skills in TypeScript or JavaScript (required); comfort reading React / React Native application code
- Hands-on experience authoring native mobile UI automation with Detox, Appium, XCUITest, or Espresso/EarlGrey
- 5 years of manual testing experience
- Experience running mobile tests against iOS simulators and Android emulators, locally and in CI
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (Bitrise, GitHub Actions, Bitbucket Pipelines, or similar)
- Demonstrated analytical skills using various tools and data sources
- Demonstrated efficiency working on cross-functional teams of 8 or more, including Project Manager, Business System Analysts, Application Developers, and System Administrators
- Demonstrated ability to apply standardized software quality processes
- Familiarity with various testing methods and strategies
- Familiarity with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes and Agile delivery
Nice to have:
- Experience testing connected products / IoT (Bluetooth/BLE, device registration, real-time messaging)
- Experience with visual/snapshot regression testing and baseline management
- Experience with test-case management tools (Jira/Xray) and reporting automated results back to them
- Experience with Expo / EAS build tooling
- Knowledge of Accessibility, Security, and Performance testing
