The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is seeking a self-motivated, versatile Federal Reserve Law Enforcement Officer K-9 Handler (FRLEO) to work with assigned K-9 partner to protect and safeguard Bank premises, property, personnel, and operations. As a K-9 team, responds to incidents on Bank property and provides emergency services and explosive detection capabilities. In addition, this role provides basic police duties including maintaining a safe environment through continual assessment and mitigation of physical security risks. The FRLEO will assist with the effective deployment of law enforcement best practices and physical security system technologies (access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, screening, etc.).
Internal candidates should anticipate an October 2026 start date, while external candidates will begin in January 2027 when academy training commences.

Key Activities:
Operates as a law enforcement K-9 handler to provide explosives detection screening of all Federal Reserve deliveries, vehicles entering upon or adjacent to Bank property, sites of special events on Bank property, and routinely patrols Bankproperty and grounds. Responds to special requests for explosive detection based on unusual or suspicious circumstances. Maintains proficiency and certification for self and K-9 in explosive detection in accordance with applicable laws andFederal Reserve policy. Responsible for all maintenance, care, handling and training of assigned K-9. Maintains knowledge of current trends and technological developments in the K-9 and Law Enforcement field. Protects and safeguards personnel, property, assets, and operations, remaining alert for potential security, property, or safety concerns and initiates the appropriate actions. Responds to disturbances and unusual, emergency, or other rapidly evolving events/situations, including potentially life-threatening situations. Uses the appropriate degree of physical force and/or weaponry as situation dictates and makes critical decisions at the scene prior to the arrival of more senior officers. Prepares detailed incident reports. Controls access to the Bank and high security areas, including inspecting individuals, their property, and/or vehicles. Performs interior and exterior security patrols and checks. Operates and monitors Bank Law Enforcement and life safety systems and equipment, including but not limited to the closed-circuit television system, integrated access control and Law Enforcement alarm systems, x-ray machine and metal detectors, biometric readers, radio system, fire system, public address system, and fire extinguishers. May perform rotational roles such as Instructor, Field Training Officer, etc. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Typically requires at least 3 years of K-9 handling experience Documented experience handling an explosive detection dog in an operational environment Prior civilian or military K-9 experience preferred High school education or GED Must be at least 21 years old Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record Excellent oral and interpersonal communications skills Write clear, concise, and grammatically correct documents Working knowledge in the use of PCs, email, and ability to learn other computer based/ MS Office applications

First Shift This position requires overtime work, including unscheduled overtime due to unanticipated staffing shortages from unscheduled absences or operational necessity, such as heightened Law Enforcement alerts. This position requires holidays and weekends.
Pay Range:
The starting pay range for this position is $54,000 - $80,900 for the job level(s) required for this position. Final offers are determined by factors including the candidate's qualifications, internal alignment considerations, district assignment, and geographic location.
Screening Requirements:
This position is contingent upon successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation, psychological examination, agility, physical, and drug screening, as well as the ability to lawfully carry a firearm. These screenings will be initiated at the time of offer acceptance and must be successfully completed prior to the position start date. Continued employment after your start date is contingent upon successful completion of ongoing training and supplemental screenings including, but not limited to: Basic Law Enforcement Training Course (BLEC), New Officer Field Training Program (FTO), in-service law enforcement training, weapons qualifications, annual drug screening, background reinvestigations and successfully maintaining Federal Reserve Law Enforcement Officer certification requirements. Background investigations and drug testing are required for all new hires as a condition of employment, after the job offer is made. Individuals hired for this role will be subject to an FBI fingerprint and criminal background check, Patriot Act/Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) watch list check, employment and education verification and NCIC check.
