Currently recruiting Registered Nurses, Emergency Room to support the Department of Emergency Medicine at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, Texas. This full-time position supports one of the Department of Defense's premier Level I Trauma Centers, providing emergency nursing care to active duty service members, military families, retirees, and other eligible beneficiaries. The Emergency Department operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and federal holidays. Nurses may be scheduled for 8, 10, or 12 hour shifts, with typical shift rotations of approximately 6: 45 a.M. To 7: 15 p.M. Or 6: 45 p.M. To 7: 15 a.M., based on patient care needs and Government scheduling requirements.
DUTIES OF THE REGISTERED NURSE, EMERGENCY ROOM:
- Provide comprehensive emergency nursing care within the scope of clinical privileges granted by Brooke Army Medical Center.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including medical history, current condition, family and social history, and patient care needs.
- Assess, prioritize, and manage patients presenting with acute illnesses, injuries, trauma, and life-threatening conditions.
- Administer medications through approved routes, including intravenous, oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, transdermal, and rectal administration while monitoring for therapeutic response and adverse reactions.
- Administer blood products in accordance with established clinical protocols.
- Perform diagnostic procedures, including phlebotomy and waived laboratory testing, to support patient evaluation and treatment.
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and document individualized nursing care plans.
- Provide direct patient care, including wound care, hygiene assistance, mobility support, and therapeutic interventions.
- Educate patients and family members regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
- Recognize deteriorating patient conditions and initiate appropriate emergency interventions and life-saving measures.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure continuity of care.
- Supervise and appropriately delegate patient care activities to Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) and unlicensed assistive personnel.
- Adhere to infection prevention and control standards and all applicable military treatment facility policies.
- Operate and monitor specialized emergency care equipment, including cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, mechanical ventilators, and other patient care technology.
- Adapt to changing patient volumes, acuity levels, and operational requirements while maintaining safe, high-quality patient care.
- Complete accurate, timely, and comprehensive electronic medical record documentation in accordance with Brooke Army Medical Center standards.
- Participate in required orientation, mandatory training, meetings, and continuing education to maintain clinical competency.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE REGISTERED NURSE, EMERGENCY ROOM:
Required:
- Associate Degree in Nursing or higher from a nursing program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
- Minimum of two (2) years of direct Emergency Department nursing experience within the previous four (4) years.
- Current, active, unrestricted Registered Nurse license from any U.S. State, the District of Columbia, U.S. Territory, or U.S. Jurisdiction.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Current Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification.
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Current Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENCP) certification.
- Must meet applicable continuing education requirements.
- Must successfully complete credentialing and provide required credentialing documentation prior to placement.
- Must successfully complete all required background investigation and maintain an active Tier 1 investigation.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen for access to U.S. Government networks.
- Must complete required physical examination, tuberculosis screening, influenza vaccination, and all required immunizations prior to in-processing.
- Must be physically capable of prolonged standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds with assistance as appropriate, assisting with patient transfers, and performing effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation when required.
- Must complete all Government-required orientation and mandatory training.
