The Veterans Affairs Central California Health Care System (VACCHCS)-a CMS 5 Star-rated medical center and the only acute care hospital in the entire Central Valley to achieve this highest distinction-is seeking a full time (1.0 FTE) Hospitalist Nocturnist physician to join our growing academic inpatient team. This role is offered in partnership with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Fresno Medical Education Program, a nationally recognized leader in medical education, quality improvement, and training excellence.

Position Highlights - Hospitalist Nocturnist:

As a Nocturnist under the VACCHCS Hospitalist Section (Specialty Care Medicine Service), you will ensure high quality, patient centric overnight care for hospitalized Veterans.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Provide all overnight admissions, cross cover duties, and urgent/emergent evaluations
  • Manage acute medical and surgical issues, pre and post operative care
  • Supervise and teach UCSF Fresno residents, fellows, and medical students
  • Lead and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (nursing, social work, chaplains, ancillary staff)
  • Deliver accurate, timely overnight documentation and ensure comprehensive morning hand offs
  • Support quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and academic teaching missions


Required Qualifications:



  • Current, full, unrestricted U.S. license (any state)
  • Completion of ACGME Internal Medicine residency
  • Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine
  • MD or DO (or equivalent degree)
  • Eligible for VA appointment VA basic qualification standards can be found here
  • Flexibility, professionalism, teamwork, and strong clinical judgment
  • Strong skills in managing inpatient medical emergencies, complex medical patients, and perioperative care
  • Eligible for UCSF Fresno Faculty appointment; faculty rank commensurate with experience
