Assistant or Associate Professor, Markets & Risk

Responsibilities:

* Develop and deliver nationally and internationally recognized teaching and research programs

* Teach at least two classes a year at the undergraduate and/or graduate level; the specific course appointments will be based on department needs and applicant's areas of expertise

* Mentor undergraduate students and advise and direct research by graduate students

* Attract grant funds to support teaching and research programs

* Develop collaborative programs with other faculty, units, and departments at Kansas State University, and with allied industry organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders.

Areas of teaching and research emphasis will be around risk management covering issues such as biosecurity, food safety, input markets, weather, macroeconomics, commodity markets, trade, and exchange rates. The Department is known for research and extension programs that address real-world problems in local, state, national, and global agriculture and agribusiness. The Department has a reputation for excellence in all three functions of the University's land grant mission (teaching, research, and extension). The successful candidate is expected to be an active contributor to the Department's teaching and research programs. The Department offers B.S. degrees in agricultural economics and agribusiness, an M.S. degree in agricultural economics, a Master of Agribusiness (MAB) degree, and a Ph.D. in economics with a specialization in agricultural economics. Currently, over 350 undergraduate and 100 graduate students are enrolled in our programs.

This position is On-site.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 
  Assistant Professor: Ph.D. or equivalent in agricultural economics, applied economics, or a closely related field.
  Strong record of academic achievement, desire to develop a renowned research program, excellent written and oral communication skills.
• 
  Associate Professor: Ph.D. or equivalent in agricultural economics, applied economics, or closely related field.
  Experience in classroom instruction. Strong record of published research, excellent written and oral communication skills.

The degree requirement is necessary for accreditation purposes and to ensure candidates possess the specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities that can only be attained through a formal educational program at this level.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 
  Assistant Professor: Research publications in peer-reviewed journals, experience in writing grant proposals, outreach activities, and demonstrated ability to initiate and advance projects with minimal supervision.
• 
  Associate Professor: Established record of excellent research publications in peer-reviewed journals, success in obtaining grant funding, experience developing relevant extension programming, and demonstrated ability to initiate and advance projects with minimal supervision.
  
  Other Requirements:
  * Excellence in classroom teaching
  * Research publications in the peer-reviewed press
  * Experience in writing grant proposals
  * Self-starting and independently motivated.
  * Ability to advance project activities with a minimum of supervision
