CDS operates four dining units (Browne Dining Hall, Red Door Marketplace, Broad Cafe, and Avery Kitchen) for a campus community of 2000. We also serve over 950 students, 7 days a week, through our Meal Plan and maintain a burgeoning Catering Department.

Job Summary

The Senior Operations and Infrastructure Manager reports to the General Manager and oversees the front of the house operations of Browne Dining Hall, and Broad Cafe (with the Broad Assistant Manager). This position is also the direct supervisor to the General Helper Supervisor, the Storeroom Keeper/Material handler, and Storeroom Assistant. This position is responsible for employee management, customer relations, and all tasks that ensure a successful operation. This includes, but not be limited to, ordering, forecasting, food usage and waste management. This position oversees equipment maintenance and overall sanitation and safety throughout all units. Creates and maintains a strong team environment that exemplifies ownership and strong initiative. Ensures operations are ready for service.

Job Duties:
  • Oversees the Broad Assistant Manager in daily operations to include hiring, training, scheduling, and staff performance
  • Instructs cooks in proper cooking methods, techniques, food safety processes and procedures
  • Oversees food costs of Broad Cafe with the Assistant Manager
  • Supervises the General Helper Supervisor while coordinating and ensuring the sanitation and upkeep of all units are being maintained to health department standards
  • Supervises storeroom operations, organization, and maintenance
  • Oversees Caltech Dining Services sanitation and safety program
  • Coordinates health department visits and addresses areas of concern
  • Conducts frequent walk-throughs, submits repair orders with consistent follow-through, and ensures all kitchen equipment is in proper working condition
  • Works with third-party vendor to ensure health department safety standards are continually maintained
  • Creates and maintains vendor relations
  • Creates processes, procedures, and training manuals with the assistance of Senior Management
  • Ability to utilize customer feedback within menu mix and services offered
  • Cultivates a positive and productive workplace by demonstrating clear communication between units, strong vision, teamwork, ownership and a can-do attitude
  • Performs daily assessments of staff and service to ensure appropriate service levels and works to improve staff performance
  • Works with Sous Chefs and senior management when making menu adjustments or suggestions based on sales data and customer feedback
  • Ensures employee work areas are ready for servicing customers; coordinates support staff covering workstations
  • Ability to assist in all areas of food service, as required
  • Prepares and plans all food service needs well in advance of service dates
  • Actively listens and addresses concerns of employees and customers
  • Orders food for daily production based on inventory and projections
  • May work varying shifts due to unforeseen events or department needs
  • Must be able to confront a challenge or adverse situation with calm and resolve
  • Must assist all other locations when required
  • Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications
  • 5+ years food service management experience
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Demonstrated team building ability
  • ServSafe Manager Certification or the ability to obtain certification immediately after hire
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods at a time, move, bend, twist, lift, push, pull, squat, reach, and walk with ease, without injury, and with a sense of urgency and purpose
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrates strong understanding of a multi-unit food service operation's infrastructure and framework
  • Food and restaurant experience at a high-volume organization

Hiring Range

$73,800 - $93,500 Per Year

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
