Build Your Payroll Career With Us Abhe & Svoboda Inc. is looking for a payroll professional who enjoys solving problems, improving systems, and getting the details right. You will own weekly payroll for a multi-state field workforce while learning the construction-specific complexities of prevailing wages, certified payroll, fringe benefits, and job-cost coding.
You do not need to know every construction-payroll rule on day one. You do need solid full-cycle, multi-state payroll experience, strong systems aptitude, and the intellectual curiosity to investigate a discrepancy until you understand and resolve it. An experienced payroll professional will provide transition support and hands-on training. What You Will Do
  • Own full-cycle weekly payroll, including time review, overtime, deductions, garnishments, benefit withholdings, per diem, reimbursements, and approved adjustments.
  • Work directly with project managers, superintendents, accounting, and field employees to research and resolve time, pay, wage, fringe, and coding questions.
  • Maintain employee pay rates, multi-state tax settings, deductions, workers' compensation codes, job phases, and other payroll data.
  • After training, own payroll-tax filings and reconciliations, certified payroll and prevailing-wage reporting, and new-project wage and fringe setup.
  • Prepare payroll journal entries and supporting schedules and assist with payroll-related general ledger reconciliations and audits.
  • Coordinate onboarding records, I-9 and E-Verify administration, employee changes, benefit deductions, and established leave-administration processes.
  • Administer Arcoro onboarding workflows and help maintain payroll, accounting, timekeeping, certified-payroll, Microsoft 365, and SharePoint processes.
  • Spot recurring errors and inefficient steps, recommend practical improvements, document procedures, and help others use the systems effectively.
This Is a Payroll-First Role This is a hands-on payroll role, not an HR generalist or people-manager position. Employee relations, EEO matters, compensation strategy, policy approval, and employment-law decisions remain with the CFO/EEO Officer. The position may provide administrative support and grow into broader responsibility. What You Bring
  • At least two years of hands-on, full-cycle payroll experience involving employees in multiple states.
  • Attention to detail and the judgment to recognize when something does not look right.
  • Curiosity and resourcefulness: you ask good questions, research unfamiliar issues, and follow them through to resolution.
  • Comfort learning payroll, accounting, timekeeping, certified-payroll, onboarding, spreadsheet, and Microsoft 365 systems.
  • Ability to manage recurring deadlines and competing priorities during a weekly payroll cycle.
  • Clear, respectful communication with people in the office and field.
  • Professional discretion and a commitment to confidentiality, data accuracy, and reliable follow-through.
Helpful, but Not Required
  • Construction, job-cost, union, prevailing-wage, certified-payroll, or field-workforce experience.
  • Experience with Arcoro, SharePoint, or comparable payroll and workforce systems.
  • An accounting, business, human resources, or related degree, or an FPC/CPP payroll credential.
Training and Growth An experienced payroll professional will remain available during the transition to teach our projects, systems, and compliance processes. As your knowledge and the company grow, the position may advance to Payroll Supervisor with responsibility for a payroll or administrative assistant. Why Abhe & Svoboda
  • Direct ownership, visibility to company leadership, and hands-on training in specialized construction payroll.
  • A competitive $80,000-$100,000 base salary reflecting the complexity and importance of the work.
  • A clear opportunity to expand your responsibility as your knowledge and the company grow.
  • A practical, field-focused culture that values accuracy, accountability, helpfulness, and improvement.
