Process Engineer, Residential Direct Energy

Tesla's residential energy business runs on processes that span the full customer journey: sales and contracting through design, permitting, installation, inspection, and interconnection. Every step has a handoff, and every handoff is a place where things can break.

As a Process Engineer on this team, you'll own discrete projects within that landscape. You'll identify problems in your area, scope solutions, build in the systems the team uses, communicate changes, and track whether they worked. Your manager will set priorities and be available when you hit blockers - but you'll drive delivery yourself.

This role is for someone early in their process engineering career who's ready to own a project end-to-end, not just contribute tasks. You'll be expected to come to your manager with a named problem and an initial hypothesis, not just a symptom. You'll write documentation that doesn't require three rounds of revision. You'll coordinate with adjacent teams on the projects you own, with manager support for escalations.

• Identify operational problems within your area of ownership; frame what's broken with a clear situation, complication, and objective before bringing it forward - not just a description of a symptom
• Scope solutions for well-defined problems: write workflow maps, RACI matrices, and success metrics; consider multiple implementation paths and document your rationale for the one you choose
• Configure systems the team uses (Bolt Forms, Grid/SMP, Digiwrench, AHJdb, Tesla Account case flows) for the projects you own; coordinate with dev or IT on software-dependent changes and write requirements clearly enough that they don't bounce back for clarification
• Write SOPs, Confluence documentation, and launch communications for your area independently; keep documentation current after a project closes without being prompted
• Define success metrics at project outset and track outcomes post-launch; project closure means an outcomes summary, not just a "launched" status update
• Coordinate directly with 1-2 adjacent teams (software, field ops, customer ops) on projects you own; external partners should know your name, not just your manager's

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, operations, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience; ability and willingness to travel domestically (5-10%)
• 1-3 years of experience in process engineering, operations, or a related field; or equivalent through a relevant internship or technical role
• Experience seeing project work through from start to finish - you've owned something end-to-end, not just contributed pieces of it
• Comfort configuring tools and learning new systems quickly; you build in the platforms your team uses, not just document on paper
• Ability to pull and interpret data to evaluate whether a process change is working: case volume trends, error rates, form submission counts
• Clear written communication: SOPs, Confluence pages, and change summaries that land without needing heavy editing
