Position Overview
The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology is seeking a temporary Summer Laboratory Helper to assist with basic laboratory support activities from approximately August through the end of September. This position is intended for a student or early-career individual interested in gaining exposure to a university research laboratory environment.

The Summer Laboratory Helper will support day-to-day laboratory operations by assisting with routine tasks such as preparing basic solutions, washing glassware, organizing supplies, maintaining clean work areas, and helping research staff with simple laboratory procedures. The position does not require advanced research experience, but the successful candidate should be dependable, careful, and able to follow instructions.

Job Description
90% Basic Laboratory Support
  • Prepare basic laboratory solutions and reagents following written instructions.
  • Wash, dry, and organize laboratory glassware and supplies.
  • Help maintain clean and organized laboratory work areas.
  • Restock common laboratory materials and consumables.
  • Assist with labeling, inventory, and basic record keeping.
10% Other duties as assigned
  • Support laboratory staff with routine non-independent tasks.
  • Follow all laboratory safety procedures and institutional guidelines.
  • Perform other basic laboratory support duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or GED equivalency
  2. Previous experience that required the ability to follow written and verbal instructions carefully as evidenced by application materials.
  3. Previous experience that demonstrated dependability, punctuality, and attention to detail as evidenced by application materials.
  4. Previous experience that required the ability to work as part of a team in a university research environment as evidenced by application materials.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Prior coursework in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, neuroscience, or a related field.
  2. Prior experience in a laboratory class or research setting as evidenced by application materials.
  3. Familiarity with basic laboratory safety practices as evidenced by application materials.
