Cleveland-Cliffs, Rockport Works is looking for aSection Manager Operations in our Finishing area. The Section Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations in the CGL department. The Section Manager oversees shift managers, department admins, and operating crews as it pertains to safety, environmental, quality, and productivity to meet established annual plans. The Section Manager will also oversee the daily activities of section engineers and partner with the section maintenance and technical groups to achieve established metrics.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Overall management of day-to-day operations including safety, environmental, quality, production, maintenance, and unit/production sequence scheduling and crew scheduling
  • Provide work instruction and training to operating units to certify product quality meets the requirements of internal, external, customer, and IATF16949 standard
  • Ability to make rapid, well thought out decisions while under time constraints
  • Availability to provide instruction and guidance during off shifts and weekends on a 24/7/365 basis
  • Provide adherence to process control key variables through reporting, observation, performance tracking, and communication to ensure continuous improvement in employee safety, product quality and productivity
  • Identify and prioritize areas in the section which require improvement and see that assistance is enlisted from all necessary personnel and groups
  • Perform data analysis, process observation, troubleshooting, and problem solving to monitor and audit processes and procedures
  • Actively participant in all department incident, accident, SIFp's, CXR's, and root cause investigations and responses
  • Implement and assist in process improvements for safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction efforts
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field and 5 years of operating experience or 10 years of equivalent operating experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, computer data collection systems, statistical system knowledge
  • Problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong operations and technical background in the shaping, treating and processing of steel sheet
  • 5 or more years of demonstrated leadership skills
