El Dorado Disposal, a Waste Connections company, is seeking a full-time Assistant Dispatcher at our Placerville, CA location. The Assistant Dispatcher plays a key role in supporting daily collection operations by coordinating route activity, communicating with drivers and customer service, reviewing work orders, resolving service issues, and helping ensure timely completion of daily dispatch responsibilities. The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The listed pay range for this job category is $21 to $26 per hour. Duties and Responsibilities The Assistant Dispatcher will work closely with the Lead Dispatcher, drivers, customer service representatives, supervisors, and operations management to support daily route execution and customer service follow-up. Core responsibilities include:
Provide administrative and operational support to the Lead Dispatcher to ensure efficient daily collection and roll-off operations. Review and process completed work orders, update service records, and ensure operational data is accurate and properly documented. Investigate customer service issues, missed pickups, and service disputes by reviewing driver notes, route information, and video verification systems, then communicate findings to customer service and operations teams. Complete billing-related activities, including processing roll-off hauls, residential and commercial extras, and maintaining supporting documentation and tracking reports. Monitor and maintain dispatch records, route information, vehicle inspection reports, and other operational documentation to support regulatory and company requirements. Assist with dispatching service requests, assigning work orders, and communicating route updates to drivers as directed by the Lead Dispatcher. Support daily driver communication by tracking route progress, responding to operational questions, and coordinating information between drivers, customer service, and management. Review upcoming work orders and route schedules to identify errors, resolve discrepancies, and help prepare operations for the following business day. Prepare reports, maintain spreadsheets, and assist with data analysis to support operational performance and decision-making. Provide professional customer service while handling inquiries, resolving concerns, and promoting positive customer relationships. Perform additional administrative, dispatch, and operational support duties as assigned. Manage large amounts of data entry while maintaining frequent communication with internal employees and departments.
Required Skills and Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required. Two years of dispatcher experience in a transportation or logistics environment preferred. Strong typing and data entry skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook. Strong organization, communication, and follow-through skills, both verbal and written. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced operations environment while maintaining accuracy and professionalism. Ability to coordinate with drivers, customer service, supervisors, and operations leadership throughout the day. Proficiency with operational systems and the ability to learn proprietary dispatch, routing, billing, and reporting tools.
Preferred Experience
Prior dispatch experience in solid waste, transportation, logistics, routing, or field operations. Experience working with work orders, route boards, driver communications, customer service issues, and daily operational reporting. Experience using Microsoft Excel to track, record, or reconcile operational data.
