What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a highly motivated BIM Engineer to be a key enabler of digital efficiency across our projects. You'll combine technical automation skills with BIM engineering expertise to design, build, and deploy tools that improve model quality, modeling efficiency, data integrity, reduce errors, and elevate the standard of BIM delivery. The ideal candidate will have experience working with large, complex projects and be able to multi-task and collaborate with several technical engineering disciplines.

What You'll Do
  • Develop and maintain custom applications and Revit add-ins using the Revit API to automate model validation, element classification, data export, and other repetitive tasks
  • Integrate BIM data with external systems (e.g., digital twin, document management, cost estimation, asset management)
  • Document workflows, tools, and standards for team-wide adoption and training
  • Maintain the integrity and health of central Revit files, including auditing, purging, and parameters management for optimal performance
  • Convert manufacturing and tool-line 2D/3D geometry into usable BIM content
  • Perform model audits and quality checks (e.g., missing families, incorrect levels, unlinked views) and own overall model accuracy, completeness, and timely issue resolution
  • Collaborate with architectural, structural, MEP, and manufacturing teams to resolve coordination issues and ensure compliance with project BIM deliverables
  • Support day-to-day BIM production, including model setup, view templates, sheets, and drawing package coordination
  • Develop, manage, and maintain BIM content libraries (families, templates, shared parameters) aligned with project and company standards
  • Facilitate multi-discipline coordination and clash detection, track issue close-out, and assist with BEPs, modeling standards, and LODs for consistent delivery

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Software Engineering, Construction Management, or Civil, Structural, Architectural, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in BIM automation and coordination, preferably in industrial, semiconductor, solar, battery, or mission-critical facility construction
  • Proficiency in C# and .NET, with experience developing tools via the Revit API
  • Experience with visual programming and automation tools (Dynamo and Python)
  • Familiarity with Revit, the Revit API, and BIM data exchange and interoperability
  • Experience with version control (Git) and software development best practices (unit testing, logging, error handling)
  • Experience with AutoCAD, IFC, data interoperability, and awareness of other BIM and parametric design applications
  • Experience interfacing with construction and cost control on quantity takeoffs and aligning WBS-based cost tracking with BIM parameters
  • First-principles problem solver who digs into root causes of interoperability issues and engineers solutions rather than accepting software limitations
  • Self-starter who is resilient and adaptable, with high autonomy to drive undefined scopes, identify coordination gaps, and propose solutions
