Job Announcement

Are you an experienced operations leader with a passion for customer service, logistics, and continuous improvement? This position works as a dynamic professional to lead the department's enterprise mail operations that support various county agencies, departments, and Board offices.

In this highly visible leadership role, you will oversee the county's centralized mail services operation, ensuring the timely, accurate, secure, and cost-effective delivery of critical communications and mail throughout the organization. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader who thrives in a fast-paced operational environment, develops high-performing teams, and continuously seeks opportunities to improve efficiency and service delivery.

As the Mail Services Chief, you will provide operational and administrative leadership for county-wide mail services, including:

  • Manages the distribution of USPS and interoffice mail throughout Fairfax County facilities.
  • Oversees bulk mail processing and postage management to ensure efficient and cost-effective mailing operations.
  • Ensures compliance with USPS regulations, postal requirements, and County policies.
  • Supervises and develops Mail Services personnel while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and - customer service.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with internal customers, USPS representatives, and external vendors.
  • Monitors operational performance, preparing reports, managing budgets, and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

Work location: this position is fully onsite and requires daily presence to oversee mail operations, personnel, equipment, and customer service.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in the field related to the assigned functional area; plus two years of professional work experience within the functional area.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of USPS regulations and experience with enterprise mail operations.
  • At least 3 years of experience supervising employees in a mail, print, logistics, warehouse, or similar operational environment.
  • Experience managing high-volume mail, shipping, logistics, or other time-sensitive operations
  • Demonstrated experience using metrics and dashboards to improve performance.
  • Experience leading process improvement or modernization initiatives.
  • Strong customer service and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience managing vendor contracts, service agreements, and operational budgets
  • Proven experience leading a high-volume operational service organization.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift material and containers typically weighing 20 to 45 pounds, but up to 75 pounds. Work is generally sedentary, performed in a normal office environment. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
