Summary
Provide genetic education, counseling, and support to patients and families seeking evaluation for, living with, or at risk for inherited conditions. Partner with an interdisciplinary care team to deliver patient-centered genetic services across a variety of specialty clinics, which may include general genetics, metabolic disorders, bone marrow transplant, cystic fibrosis, hearing loss, maternal-fetal medicine, neurofibromatosis, disorders of sexual development, and other specialized programs.

Essential Functions
-Assess personal and family histories to evaluate the risk of inherited conditions, genetic disorders, and birth defects.
-Provide individualized genetic counseling, education, and support to patients and families throughout the care journey.
-Interpret and evaluate genetic information and current evidence related to gene-disease associations to support clinical decision-making.
-Develop accurate genetic risk assessments and communicate findings in a clear, compassionate, and understandable manner.
-Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary care teams to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
-Contribute to the development and maintenance of patient consent forms, genetic counseling protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and patient education resources.
-Respond to questions and provide genetic expertise to patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
-Maintain thorough and timely documentation in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.

Education

  • Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling required.

Licenses and Credentials

  • Genetic Counselor State License (or eligibility to obtain licensure, as applicable) required.

Experience

  • 1-2 years of experience in genetic counseling or a related clinical genetics setting preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal, patient, and customer service skills with the ability to build trust and provide compassionate care.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex genetic information to diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, and communicate genetic and genomic information using evidence-based practices.
  • Working knowledge of molecular genetics, genomics, and related scientific principles.
  • Ability to follow established clinical, research, and regulatory protocols while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
