Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is the non-profit, applied research arm of Georgia Tech. This position is in the Research Security department of GTRI. The SAP/SCI Manager is responsible for supporting the SAP/SCI programs within Research Security in managing and executing daily operations across all Special Access Program (SAP) and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) programs. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, maintaining secure environments, fostering collaboration, and implementing security initiatives.
Job Summary
The Manager of Research Security is tasked with developing and implementing security protocols to protect sensitive research data and facilities from potential threats. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of security measures and compliance standards to ensure the safety of personnel and the integrity of research activities. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing performance, providing feedback, and making pay recommendations.
Responsibilities
Job Duty 1 - Develop and implement comprehensive security policies and procedures to protect sensitive research data and facilities from unauthorized access and threats.
Job Duty 2 - Conduct regular security assessments and audits to evaluate the effectiveness of existing security measures and identify areas for improvement.
Job Duty 3 - Monitor security incidents and breaches, conduct thorough investigations and coordinating response efforts to mitigate risks.
Job Duty 4 - Provide training and awareness programs for employees on security best practices and the importance of safeguarding research information.
Job Duty 5 - Develop and maintain relationships with law enforcement and security agencies to enhance the organization's security posture and response capabilities.
Job Duty 6 - Prepare and present reports on security incidents, risks, and compliance to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
Job Duty 7 - Evaluate and recommend security technologies and solutions to improve the organization's overall security infrastructure.
Job Duty 8 - Stay current with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to research security to ensure compliance and best practices. Job Duty 9 - Collaborate with Information Technology and research teams to integrate security protocols into research processes and technologies.
Job Duty 10 - Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Other Required Qualifications Experience with either a government agency or contractor organization
Required Experience Five or more years of relevant experience, including three or more years of supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Educational Qualifications Master's Degree in related discipline or equivalent.
Preferred Experience Some experience in a university environment Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Must have active Top Secret/SCI clearance with the ability to maintain Special Access Program (SAP) access.
- 4-6 years in demonstrated security management experience in SAP and SCI programs.
- Experience overseeing both Physical and Personnel Security programs for classified environments, ensuring compliance with the NISPOM, DoDM 5205.07 Vol 1-4, ICDs 704/705, and related governance.
- DoD-approved certifications, including Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC), Special Program Security Certification (SPSC), CISSP, or equivalent.
- Compliance and Inspection experience, including leading annual security audits for SAPF's and SCIF's.
- Prior leadership in large-scale multi-program environments requiring complex oversight and direct government interaction.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
SKILLS Must be familiar with the following computer/database products; Security Information Management System (SIMS), Air Force Access Database System (AFADS) and its variants, Army Contractor Access Verification System (ACAVS), Joint Personnel Adjudication System (JPAS), Microsoft (MS) operating systems, MS office suites, Linux and Solaris operating systems.
