Senior Backline Engineer (Multiple Positions)

Senior Backline Engineer (Multiple Positions), Databricks, Inc., Plano, TX. Resolve high-priority and complex technical escalations, helping customers achieve success with the Databricks platform. Serve as the technical bridge between the Support and Engineering teams, acting as the first line of defense for engineering and vetting issues before escalation. Troubleshoot and resolve complex software issues, providing deep code-level analysis of Apache Spark components, including Spark Core, Spark SQL, Structured Streaming, and Databricks Delta. Provide best-practice guidance on Spark runtime performance and the usage of Spark core libraries and APIs for custom-built customer solutions. Create and maintain detailed troubleshooting guides and runbooks for the support team. Contribute to automation and tooling programs to improve diagnostic and troubleshooting efficiency. Collaborate with the Spark Engineering team to communicate and support upcoming features, releases, and technical changes. Identify Spark bugs, document findings, and propose workarounds or patches to minimize customer impact. Develop, test, and sustain applications using Python, Java, and Scala. Compile, build, and navigate the Apache Spark source code to identify and apply bug fixes or patches. Work with data engineering pipelines leveraging technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, and Elasticsearch. Partial telecommuting permitted. (DBxTX005)

40 hrs/week, Mon-Fri, 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field, plus 60 months of progressive, post-bachelor’s experience in software development or backline engineering.

Alternatively, will accept Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field plus 36 months of experience in Software development or backline engineering.

Of the required experience, must have 36 months in:

• Big data/distributed system tools including Hive.

Of the required experience, must have 36 months of experience in 5 or more of the following (which may be gained concurrently):

• Applying knowledge of AI and Machine Learning frameworks using Python
• Generative AI concepts, including Large Language Models (LLMs) and prompt engineering
• Proficiency in GraphQL (GQL) and its applications in AI platforms
• Hands-on experience with YAML for configuration and data representation
• SQL-based database systems
• Troubleshooting Java Virtual Machine (JVM), garbage collection (GC), and thread-dump-based issues
• Utilizing cloud platforms and services such as AWS and Azure
• Developing or troubleshooting large-scale data systems using Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka Elasticsearch.

Of the required experience, must have 12 months in:

• Machine Learning algorithms including classification
• Cloud.
