The Registered Nurse provides specialized assessment, treatment, and ongoing management of acute and chronic wounds. This role ensures evidence based wound care, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, and educates patients and staff to promote optimal healing outcomes.

Type of Opportunity: Full time FTE: 0.90 Job Exempt: No Work Shift: 12 Hour Days (United States of America)

Responsibilities:

  • Wound assessment - Perform comprehensive evaluations of pressure injuries, surgical wounds, diabetic ulcers, venous/arterial ulcers, burns, and atypical wounds; document staging, measurements, drainage, and tissue characteristics.

  • Treatment planning - Develop individualized wound care plans using evidencebased protocols, including debridement support, dressing selection, offloading, compression therapy, and infection prevention.

  • Dressing management - Apply and monitor advanced wound dressings (hydrocolloids, alginates, foams, NPWT, antimicrobial dressings).

  • Patient education - Teach patients and caregivers about wound care techniques, nutrition, hygiene, and prevention strategies.

  • Interdisciplinary collaboration - Work closely with physicians, podiatrists, PT/OT, dietitians, and case managers to coordinate care.

  • Documentation - Maintain accurate, timely wound records, photographs, and progress notes in the EMR.

  • Quality improvement - Participate in pressureinjury prevention programs, audits, and performance improvement initiatives.

  • Staff training - Provide inservice education on wound prevention, dressing techniques, and product use.

  • Infection control - Monitor for signs of infection and escalate care appropriately.

Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Nursing

  • State of New Mexico or Compact State Nursing License

  • BLS certification REQUIRED at time of hire

  • At least one (1) year of acute care in the last three (3) years

  • Wound care experience preferred

  • Wound Certification preferred but not required
